Overview

Position: Violence Prevention Program Director

Department: Reading Corps - Violence Prevention Program

Availability of Position: August 1 2025

Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 am 4:30 pm Some evenings/weekends if possible

Reporting Relationship: Corps Commanding Officer

Salary and Grade: $51989.40 per year; 11 Exempt

Position Overview:

Develop and implement the Trauma-Informed Violence Prevention Program as designed and approved by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This program will support children at The Salvation Armys Learning Center and families involved in the Corps social service programs. This role is grant-funded and ongoing funding depends on program outcomes and report compliance.

Responsibilities

Description of Position:

  • Develop and implement the Trauma-Informed Violence Prevention Program as described in the approved Commonwealth of PA proposal which includes but is not limited to:
    • Working with the children in the Learning Center their families as well as families receiving assistance through the social services programs of the Salvation Army
    • Develop and articulate memorandums of agreement with local schools and agencies for referrals and support services
    • Provide children and their families with intervention and coping strategies to address the trauma from and prevention of future gun violence
    • Identify behavioral specialists to be used for group trainings and develop contracts for services
    • Develop and oversee trauma-informed group training sessions
    • Develop and oversee lesson plans focusing on conflict resolution techniques in the Learning Center and other social services programs
    • Develop and implement team building activities in the Learning Center and other social services programs
  • Train local staff to identify symptoms and coping behaviors associated with reactions to violence
  • Work one-on-one with Learning Center to assess students to see who could benefit from trauma-informed group work Work with social services program directors in developing group lessons reinforcing trauma coping mechanisms and positive behaviors
  • Conduct initial screening intake and assessment of identified children for the program
  • Ensure timely coordination for referrals to resources and the meeting of immediate needs for each client and their families
  • Develop assessments and means of measuring outcomes as defined in the approved Trauma-Informed Violence Prevention proposal
  • Record statistics and outcome measures in Service Point software
  • Develop and maintain a referral system with partner agencies and other partnership strategies
  • Keep up to date case notes and ensure client confidentiality in all forms of communication
  • Responsible for developing and filing progam and financial reports with the Commonwealth of PA as required
  • Monitor the Pennsylvania Violence Intervention & Prevention grant solicitation dates apply during the open window and submit timely quarterly post-award program and financial reports with support from Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters representatives to ensure continued funding for the program including this position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Master of Social Work degree preferred; or Bachelor of Social Work with minimum two years experience
  • Experience with trauma informed care particularly involved with violence prevention initiatives
  • Excellent planning communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills
  • Team player results oriented highly motivated pro-active and self-directed
  • Computer literate and able to learn computer software programs
  • Experience managing a grant ftnded program preferred
  • Must have a valid drivers license and reliable transportation to travel from site to site as may be needed in the perfomance of duties
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish helpful
  • Experience/education relating to trauma reduction services preferred
  • As a Mandated Reporter must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
  • Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Must have an understanding of and an appreciation for the mission of The Salvation Army
