Job Description

Auxiliary Nurse This a substitute position (as needed) no benefits.

Qualifications:

  1. Valid Alabama Nursing license to practice as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse
  2. Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience; experience in pediatric emergency or community nursing preferred.
  3. Current BLS CPR Certification for the Professional Rescuer
  4. Valid Drivers license

Supervisor(s): System Supervising Nurse for the School District & Principal

Background CheckRequired: ( 16-22A-5)- Upon offer of employment employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old.

Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of Board policies and procedures
  2. Knowledge of current general medical and pediatric nursing practices
  3. Effective written and oral communication skills
  4. Ability to use and implement computer technology programs

Essential Functions:

  1. Provides nursing care for students requiring special health procedures such as but not limited to urinary catheterization gastrostomy tube feedings insulin administration and nebulizer treatments
  2. Administers PRN and scheduled medication to assigned student in accordance with approved policy and procedures relating to medication.
  3. Evaluates and provides care for students who present to the clinic for illness or injury
  4. Maintains proper and accurate documentation
  5. Administers first aid in accordance with established first aide procedures
  6. Enforces the guidelines of the School Districts health policies
  7. Contacts Nursing Supervisor when unsure of specific procedure
  8. Contacts Principal and Nursing Supervisor regarding crisis situations in the school. This includes child abuse threatened suicide and accidents.
  9. Maintains confidentiality of information as required by school policy.
  10. Follows individualized health care plans for students with chronic diseases.
  11. Communicates with parents/guardians health care providers and staff as appropriate
  12. Able to stand walk and sit frequently or for prolonged periods of time. Additional physical abilities include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling stooping/crouching.
