Description

Develops vision and strategy for expanding and leading the pediatric educational programs including:

  • Ensures the Department of Pediatrics maintains the highest standard in training medical students residents and fellows. Elevates the culture of teaching and learning at Childrens.
  • Works collaboratively with the Department Chair of Pediatrics and Non-DOP (Department of Pediatrics) Chairs along with all Pediatric Institute and Childrens Physician Group Division Chiefs to align academic priorities and educational initiatives for each specialty.
  • Oversees and supports the ongoing implementation creation of quality programs for medical students residents and fellows to satisfy or exceed external regulations and national accreditation standards as well as the creation of any new educational programs (e.g. fellowships).
  • Conducts programmatic reviews and oversees faculty who serve as program directors assistant program directors core faculty and members of required committees of ACGME-accredited resident and fellowship training programs.
  • Conducts programmatic reviews and oversees faculty who serve as clerkship director and key faculty and members of required committees of LCME (Liaison Committee on Medical Education) related to Pediatric education.
  • Provide broad oversight for the expansion and sustainability of non-ACGME programs including collaborating with appropriate stakeholders to assess and integrate new program proposals.
  • Oversees an evaluation strategy for educational programs and their leadership ensuring that programmatic goals and professional standards are met or exceeded.
  • Monitors fellow resident and student evaluation of teaching faculty members; provides regular feedback and counseling to individual teaching faculty including adjunct faculty as needed and requested by the Program Leadership or the Chair.
  • Partner with Emory University to develop oversee and enhance a comprehensive Continuing Medical Education (CME) program that supports the ongoing professional development of pediatric healthcare providers.
  • Assists the Chair in the assignment of faculty teaching time to promote excellence in all teaching programs and advance educational skills for our teaching faculty in the Department of Pediatrics.
  • Provide reports based on teaching evaluations to departmental promotions committee as requested for faculty promotions.
  • Collaborate with the Vice Chair of Faculty Development to establish appropriate training and development modules to build educational skills for faculty.
  • Promotes careers of established medical educators and of those with particular interest in medical education and aptitude for teaching including their participation in external faculty development programs fellowships or extramural funding efforts.
  • Prepares presents and reviews educational status reports and issues at faculty meetings as appropriate and applicable and reports monthly to the Department Chair of Pediatrics/Executive Director of the Pediatric Institute/Pediatrician-in-Chief.
  • Participates in the training of medical students residents fellows and faculty and in the educational programs of the department.
  • Liaises with potential external academic partners to integrate new training programs into Childrens. Works directly with Childrens Academic Administration Emory Executive Administrator and Vice Chair for Administration for Department of Pediatrics and the Pediatric Institute relevant Division Chiefs relevant Department Chairs and their administrative partners to operationalize new training programs.
  • Partners with Childrens learning team to leverage and share educational tools and models.
  • Works with the Chair of the Department of Pediatrics Childrens Foundation President and Emory Office of Advancement and Alumni Engagement to establish and administer philanthropic funding to support educational activities across Childrens.
  • Manages and stays within the budget for educational programs and enhancements to current activities in partnership with the Vice President of Research and Academic Administration (Childrens) and Executive Administrator and Emory Executive Administrator and Vice Chair for Administration for Department of Pediatrics and the Pediatric Institute.
  • Works with community partners statewide pediatric training programs and leaders at Childrens and Emory to ensure sufficient training sites to meet requirements.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD or DO) or equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board Certification in Pediatrics or a pediatric subspecialty.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the state of Georgia.
  • Meet eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of Childrens professional staff.
  • An advanced degree in Medical Education Business Health Administration Public Health and/or PhD is preferred but not required.
  • Five (5) or more years of extensive experience in graduate medical education leadership including oversight of ACGME-accredited programs.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing innovative educational programs for medical students residents and fellows.
  • Demonstrated success in faculty development mentorship and fostering academic excellence.
  • National recognition for contributions to medical education with leadership roles in professional organizations or scholarly publications.
  • Strong commitment to diversity equity and inclusion in academic and clinical settings
  • An experienced academic and operational leader with vision enthusiasm and executive presence with a track record as a unifier. Can successfully galvanize a group to one vision.
  • Significant medical teaching experience and training program oversight/management experience with the capacity to align/engage physicians and clinicians.
  • Passion for patient care excellence and service.
  • National reputation of excellence within Graduate Medical Education and/or research gained within an advanced and highly complex market.
  • Experience building and maintaining partnerships between academic and clinical stakeholders.

Education and Certification Summary: Eligible for an appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor at the Emory University School of Medicine
