Description

Deseret Trust Company is an integrated auxiliary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints a tax-exempt charitable organization corporate fiduciary and a financial institution regulated by the Utah Department of Financial Institutions. To help the Church accomplish its religious mission all employees must hold a current temple recommend (if endowed) or be temple worthy as indicated by a certification from an ecclesiastical leader (if not endowed). Employees are expected to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ and Church leaders and live principles of honesty integrity and morality. Where applicable employees should work with support and advise ecclesiastical leaders in the discharge of their religious duties. Employees serve as role models for members by fulfilling the Churchs work with divine guidance. They maintain a spirit of religious compassion towards others and an attitude of devotion to God. Regular attendance and timely arrival at the assigned work location is required to accomplish the work of furthering the mission of the Church.

The Deseret Trust Company Program Officers primary responsibility will be the administration management and stewardship of the companys donor advised fund program which strengthens the global Church and helps make the world a better place. Incumbents will work as part of a dynamic team that also administers charitable remainder trusts gift annuities and other charitable giving accounts. This is a people manager role.



Responsibilities
  • Manage the day-to-day frontline administration of the fast-growing donor advised fund (DAF) program and manage 3 administrative staff assisting with the program
  • Manage portfolio of assigned DAF accounts in compliance with policy legal and regulatory requirements
  • Manage incoming donations and oversee the receipting for assigned DAF accounts
  • Manage the outflow of donor advised fund grants to the Church its entities and other charities
  • Manage new DAF account onboarding
  • Manage and cultivate donor relationships that result in meaningful philanthropic experience
  • Direct the building of strong relationships with the trust team philanthropic donors and their families as well as Deseret Trusts business partners serving as an internal liaison with the Churchs Philanthropies Department
  • Direct the creation of a positive satisfying and inspiring giving experience for donors throughout the life of the account
  • Correlate with a team of trust officers trust assistants and our accounting and operations teams for crisp execution in a highly collaborative environment. Other important partnerships include investment managers attorneys financial planners and CPAs
  • Manage the companys marketing and communications program in close collaboration with the Vice President


Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelors degree in related field
  • 7 years of experience with donor advised funds charitable giving grants administration major or planned giving donor relations community foundations or related work in the nonprofit sector (e.g. public charities charitable gift and estate planning)
  • Working knowledge and understanding of state and federal regulations regarding charitable giving donor advised funds and fiduciary responsibility to protect the company from potential liability
  • Ability to answer client questions regarding charitable giving taxes (federal and state) and donor advised fund rules
  • Basic understanding of various investment vehicles (stocks bonds etc.) as well as investment and allocation strategies
  • Ability to work diplomatically and patiently in sensitive situations with donors management and colleagues
  • Program project or people management experience that demonstrates an ability to administer a nonprofit program as well as establish and maintain tracking systems
  • Experience balancing and meeting multiple deadlines projects and deliverables effectively
  • Adept at Microsoft Office Suite and related applications; ability to learn technical and technological things quickly willingness to learn and master new applications
  • Experience with donor/nonprofit marketing and communication a plus
  • To perform the responsibilities of the Program Officer the ideal candidate will have the following skills talents or abilities:

    • Excellent oral and written skills to help donors understand and use their advisory privileges effectively
    • Exceptional customer relationship management ability to build strong relationships and resolve out-of-sync relationships in a timely clear and caring fashion
    • No fear of clients or of telling clients things they might need to know but are afraid to hear
    • An upbeat approach sensed by others professional and patient able to maintain positivity and respectful demeanor with colleagues and clients when resolving problems and issues
    • A strong sense of craftsmanship in administering charitable giving accounts with accuracy completeness and attention to detail
    • An ability to work collaboratively across disciplines within the company and effectively share ideas about how to grow the intersections between them
    • Situational adaptability and ability to manage ambiguity nimble with change versatile
    • A powerful intellectual curiosity willingness to listen and counsel together in a team environment to optimize business processes with a focus on continuous improvement
    • Excellent time management and organizational skills to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced compliance-driven environment
    • Ability to learn and use company applications (front and back office) as well as reports and large data sets
    • An intense desire to learn grow help others and make a difference in a great cause
    • Respond to state and corporate auditors concerning accounts assigned for administration
