Instructional Paraprofessional II

Full-Time Non-Exempt

Location: North Hudson Academy-North Bergen NJ

Compensation Range: $24.00-$27.00/per hour

Reports to: School Principal

Position Summary:

The Instructional Paraprofessional supports the Teacher by performing essential duties in the classroom ensuring a safe and clean environment for all students. This role involves active participation in the educational and therapeutic programs under the Teachers guidance.

North Hudson Academy a First Children School is a New Jersey Department of Education approved private special education school serving students from PreK through high school. We specialize in programs for students with behavioral/emotional issues pre-school handicapped and learners on the Autism Spectrum.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of the Classroom Teacher assists in planning and implementing classroom activities.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group instruction as directed by the teacher.
  • Maintain a safe clean and organized classroom environment.
  • Support the implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs) behavior management strategies and therapy plans.
  • Provide direct care and supervision to students ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Facilitate student engagement in educational and therapeutic activities.
  • Assist the Classroom Teacher with administrative duties i.e. attendance material inventory recording of grades
  • Collaborate with the educational team to monitor and document student progress.
  • Participate in all staff conferences faculty meetings in-service professional development and training activities as required.
  • Intermittent classroom coverage.
  • Supervise student disciplinary interventions
  • Assist school personnel in the supervision of out-of-classroom activities such as bus arrival and dismissal lunch and field trips.
  • Other periodic assignments as requested by the School Administration.

Team:

This role will be part of theinstructional team reporting to the school principal.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or satisfactory completion of 60 credits at an institution of higher education with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • Current Substitute Teacher Certificate
  • Previous experience working with children especially those with special needs is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Compassionate patient and dedicated to the well-being of students.
  • Must be able to read write speak and understand English.
