Who are we looking for

GHD has an opportunity for a mid-levelEnvironmental Engineer/Scientist/Hydrogeologist to work with our Contaminated Assessment Remediation (CAR) group as a CAR professional based in our Des Moines Iowa office. If you are a self-motivated professional with excellent technical skills federal/state/local environmental regulatory knowledge and existing relationships with clients prospects and regulators then this is a great opportunity to explore!

Working with an energetic and high performing team this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

Using knowledge of various engineering and scientific disciplines may collect synthesize study report and recommend action based on data derived from measurements or observations of air food soil water and other sources. Work may include waste treatment site remediation or pollution control technology.

Responsibilities

Engineering Solutions Design: Contribute to the design of engineering solutions; design the feasibility testing approach and supervise its implementation to support the development and validation of engineering solutions.

Health Safety and Environment: Follow the organizations health safety and environment (HSE) policies procedures and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace. Identify patterns of risky behavior within the team and take appropriate action to resolve them escalating serious issues as appropriate.

Technical Troubleshooting: Support technical troubleshooting efforts aiding in the quick and accurate identification analysis and resolution of technical issues with equipment and experiments.

Drawings and Figures: Create drawings and figures to support the communication evaluation and implementation of engineering solutions.

Data Collection and Analysis: Collate and analyze data using preset tools methods and formats. Involves working independently.

Project Management: Work within an established project management plan to achieve specific goals.

Testing: Use product specifications to design test procedures and standards.

Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation where relevant to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an understanding of relevant technology external regulation and industry best practices through ongoing education attending conferences and reading specialist media.

Client & Customer Management (External): Help colleagues manage client and customer relationships by using relevant sales or client systems.

Understanding of multimedia remedial technologies for addressing a variety of contaminants including VOCs SVOCs metals and PFAS.

Coordinate and simultaneously manage multiple projects while maintaining a high degree of attention to detail in a consulting environment.

Ability to travel which will include overnight travel.

Education

Bachelors degree or masters degree in engineering geology or environmental science.

Experience

5-10 years experience including a mix of field data evaluation and interpretation and technical report writing.

Minimum 2 years experience managing projects.

Professional designation/license (Professional Engineer Certified Professional Geologist etc.) a plus.

Experience with solid waste or coal combustion residual (CCR) management a plus.

Experience preparing regulatory work plans and reports for investigation remediation and closure.

Working knowledge of methods and procedures for site characterization hydrogeologic analysis and remediation of contaminants in soil soil vapor indoor air and groundwater.

Working knowledge of the design and operation and maintenance of remediation systems.

OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification.
