Job Summary The Jackson College MWSE Career Advisor will identify assess prepare and support students through positive completion of their college training program. The career advisor will connect students to jobs with employers identified by the Michigan Works! Southeast Business Services team and the Pure Michigan Talent Connect website. The primary objective of the Career Advisor is to provide all registered or enrolled students with the services assistance and resources they need to complete their education and reach their employment goals. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Provide excellent customer service to students clients and partners
- Provide case management services to all clients participating in workforce activities and receiving supportive services
- Enroll clients in applicable programs when appropriate. Determine eligibility based on state and federal regulations.
- Recommend supportive services evaluate and process clients request for supportive services to determine eligibility
- Assess client skills utilizing required basic skill assessments and compatibility tests
- Process all program required documentation and maintain accurate and complete case notes as required by state and federal program regulations
- Enter detailed record of all activities assessments actions and case notes in management information system.
- Prepare clients for job readiness by providing job search assistance resume writing mock interviews and soft skills training
- Supervise job search provision of training provide referrals to Business Services Team
- Work with employers to secure work experience locations contracts and monitoring of work-based learning activities for program participants
- Maintain open lines of communication with clients to ensure program compliance
- Achieve all performance standards requirements and measures
- Must have knowledge of and comply with laws regulations policies procedures and outcomes mandated by the program funding sources and funding streams including Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) Partnership Accountability Training Hope (PATH) Food Assistance Employment and Training (FAET) and WIOA Title II
- Comply with the Wagner-Peyser Act regulations and the Employment Services State Policies and Manual including mandated processes for serving populations such as the Veterans and persons with disabilities
- Attend all required meetings with partners and Michigan Works! Southeast staff
- Outreach intake assessment eligibility determination collection of applicable documentation per funding source recommendation of program enrollment development and implementation of the Individual Service Strategy (ISS) are required duties and responsibilities
- Understanding and awareness of community partners and resources for necessary referrals
- Write quarterly success stories on achievements of participants.
- Attend required afterhours or weekend community events sponsored by other community partners
- Travel between service centers and other sites as necessary to meet the needs of the organization
- Handle stress appropriately and interact well with other

Qualifications All agency team members are expected to be technically competent and committed to continuous development of their skills. The following skills knowledge and education or certifications are specifically required for this position: - Associates degree or equivalent directly related experience in human services field case management or related fields; Bachelors degree preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required
- Ability to interact with employees and customers in a professional manner at all times including during stressful situations is required
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state regulations with respect to employment and training programs and/or career and technical education programs
- Knowledge of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) Reemployment Services and Eligibility Assessment (RESEA) Partnership Accountability Training Hope (PATH) Food Assistance Employment and Training (FAE&T) and Jobs for Michigan Graduates (JMG) Wagner-Peyser and Unemployment Insurance Agency program rules and regulations preferred
- Experience working with education community public and non-profit organizations
- Ability to travel between service centers and community organizations to meet the needs of the organization as required
Work Location: The Jackson College MWSE Career Advisor will work on-site at Jackson College four days a week and report the Jackson American Jobs Center one day each week. Physical Demands Duties require sufficient mobility to work in a normal office setting and use standard office equipment including a computer vision to read printed materials on an LCD screen and smartphone hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person and over the telephone.
