Warehouse Operations
Supervise the receiving inspection and proper storage of raw materials such as steel billets alloys and chemicals used in casting production.
Manage the proper storage of finished castings ensuring that they are protected from damage and corrosion.
Monitor and optimize warehouse space to accommodate heavy and oversized steel castings optimizing layout for operational efficiency.
Coordinate with the production team to ensure smooth delivery of required materials to the foundry floor.
Inventory Control
Oversee accurate tracking and management of inventory in the warehouse including casting raw materials maintenance supplies and finished products.
Perform regular stock counts of high-value materials such as metals and alloys ensuring accuracy in stock levels and minimizing discrepancies.
Implement and maintain a robust system for tracking high-demand and high-cost materials.
Identify materials that are nearing expiry or are excess stock and report for possible recycling or disposal.
Logistics Coordination
Coordinate with internal and external logistics teams to ensure the timely transportation of materials both inbound and outbound adhering to the production schedules.
Handle logistics for large-scale shipping and receiving ensuring safe handling of heavy castings steel components and other large items.
Ensure that shipping documentation (including hazardous material handling) complies with local and international regulations for steel and foundry materials.
Team Supervision & Training
Lead and supervise warehouse staff ensuring that they adhere to operational standards safety procedures and quality expectations specific to a steel foundry and iron casting environment.
Train warehouse team members on material handling techniques to avoid damage to heavy castings and other sensitive items.
Ensure that warehouse staff are familiar with the handling and storage requirements of hazardous materials such as chemicals used in the casting process.
Develop a culture of accountability and teamwork focusing on efficiency and safety in a manufacturing environment.
Health Safety & Compliance
Implement and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and industry standards for material handling in a high-risk environment.
Conduct regular safety audits and safety drills to prevent accidents particularly with handling large and heavy materials or hazardous substances used in casting production.
Ensure that the warehouse complies with environmental standards regarding waste disposal and material handling especially for metal scraps and used chemicals.
Ensure proper labeling storage and disposal of any hazardous waste materials as per environmental regulations.
Continuous Improvement & Lean Manufacturing
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to optimize warehouse operations and reduce material waste in alignment with Lean manufacturing principles.
Analyze and suggest improvements in warehouse processes to ensure faster material turnover and reduce lead times for casting production.
Collaborate with the production team to ensure raw materials are used efficiently and reduce scrap rates in the foundry process.
Implement best practices for storing and handling scrap metals to support recycling and minimize wastage.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Diploma or bachelors degree in supply chain management Logistics Industrial Engineering or related fields.
35 years of experience in warehouse management preferably in a steel foundry heavy manufacturing or industrial environment.
Knowledge of warehouse and inventory management systems (e.g. SAP Oracle or similar ERP systems).
Familiarity with the specific material handling needs of a steel and iron casting factory including safety standards for metals and chemicals.
Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage and train warehouse teams.
Experience with the use of forklifts and other heavy material handling equipment with relevant certifications.
Strong understanding of safety standards and regulatory compliance particularly for manufacturing and foundry environments.
