How to Apply: Overview

The Deputy GeneralCounsel is responsible for serving as the lead attorney on all labor relationmatters implementing and managing legal operational processes handlingcomplex transactional matters and supporting the daily functions of the LegalDepartment as directed by the General Counsel/Chief Administrative Officer.


Core Responsibilities


Provide counsel and assist with all labor relationmatters:


oServe as lead member ofcollective bargaining team in negotiations with union and union representation.

oAdvise senior managementand campus leadership on collective bargaining negotiations and contractadministration.

oRepresent Acero incollective bargaining negotiations and manage its relationship with unionofficers and field representatives.

oCoordinate managementresponse to union grievances relating to the administration of collectivebargaining agreements.

oManage the preparationand presentation of charges related to the National Labor Relations Act.

oCoordinaterepresentation of Acero in arbitration matters arising as a result of grievanceprocedures under collective bargaining agreements.

oProvide advice on andinterpretation of collective bargaining agreements to network management andcampus leadership.

oConduct discharge anddisciplinary reviews for union and non-union staff in alignment with Acerosapproach to performance management.

oAdvise networkmanagement and campus leadership on policies concerning wage hours andworking conditions to ensure compliance with labor and employment law as wellas collective bargaining agreements.

oPromote activerelationship management as a tool for dispute resolution and third-partyavoidance.

o Provide ongoing training to network administration andcampus leadership as a means of proactive employee and labor relationshipmanagement.

Oversee legal departmentoperations:


oAssist in management oflegal department operations by developing implementing and monitoringmetrics/client satisfaction measures.

oPartnerwith Operations and Human Capital to drive the assessment development and maintenance of network wide Compliance objectives.

oDeliver training and co-develop tools to optimize management of legal and compliance processes and risks.

oParticipate in strategicplanning including the development of departmental goals/initiatives and themetrics to evaluate progress toward those goals/initiatives.

Manage complex transactions

Support GeneralCounsel/Chief Administrative Officer in management and coordination of internalinvestigations.

Support the managementof FOIA requests.

Manage regulatory agencyinquiries and investigations.

Responsible for specialor strategic projects or initiatives as delegated by the General Counsel/ChiefAdministrative Officer.

Other duties asassigned.

Qualifications

Education

o JurisDoctor required

o Licenseto practice law in Illinois required

Knowledge Skills and Ability

o Knowledgeof labor relations and labor and employment laws as applied to the educationalfield

o Knowledgeof union contract administration and negotiation

o Experiencein employee discipline and performance management

o Strongnegotiation and communication skills

o Criticalthinking skills

o Workingknowledge of National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) complaint procedures

o Workingknowledge of arbitration procedures

o Possessability to establish performance metrics

o Experiencein providing training

o Experiencewith Microsoft Office including Excel and Word

o Abilityto travel for business as required

o Must holdpermanent residency in the United States (required)
