Provide Direct Student Care
Administer first aid manage chronic conditions (e.g. asthma diabetes) and respond to health emergencies with appropriate medical care and communication.
Manage Medications and Treatment Plans
Dispense prescribed medications maintain up-to-date medication orders and follow individualized health care plans (IHPs) for students with specific medical needs.
Monitor Communicable Diseases and Illnesses
Identify symptoms track illness trends and collaborate with public health agencies to manage and prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
Maintain Health Records and Documentation
Keep accurate records of immunizations screenings medical visits and care provided in compliance with state and district guidelines.
Conduct Screenings and Referrals
Perform annual health screenings (vision hearing scoliosis etc.) and refer students for follow-up care when necessary.
Support Health Education and Wellness
Educate students staff and families on health topics such as hygiene nutrition and illness prevention; support wellness initiatives and classroom instruction when appropriate.
Collaborate with Families and Staff
Communicate health concerns provide updates and serve as a liaison between families healthcare providers and school personnel.
Promote a Healthy and Safe Environment
Advise on school-wide practices such as sanitation safety procedures and crisis response; assist in developing health-related policies.
Support Students with Special Needs
Participate in IEP or 504 meetings as needed and ensure accommodations are followed for students with medical-related learning impacts.
Crisis and Emergency Preparedness
Serve as a member of the school safety/crisis team; train staff in basic health protocols such as CPR EpiPen use or first aid.
