Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position):


The job involves looking for articles and making scans from certain medical journals that are kept in the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda MD. In some cases you will receive specific bibliographical information down to the page number and other times you will have to look for key words and scan any article you can find that contains them.


Transferable Skills:
This job is a great opportunity to get some initial research experience. The research assistant will learn to navigate a big research library order and consult materials in the target language (Russian). It is also an invaluable opportunity to gain a historical background in nineteenth-century print culture and medical history in the Russian Empire.


Duties and Responsibilities:
Find and scan relevant articles from the selected medical journals.


Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)

Currently enrolled student at St. Olaf College
Very good Russian language knowledge (best if completed Russian 302 or equivalent)
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Dependable and punctual
Great organizational skills
