Job Description

The Team

The Middle School Faculty are a collaborative and forward-thinking community of education professionals who are consistently looking for ways to create real-world project-based experiences that help their students connect content in a relevant and impactful way. While they customize and personalize the learning for each course this team is united in using an inquiry-based model and a mastery approach to teaching. The humanities team at Mount Vernon uses an interdisciplinary approach to teach literature history and grammar concepts using projects design thinking expeditionary and inquiry-based approaches.


The Role

The Grade 7 Humanities Long Term Substitute role facilitates the delivery of humanities curriculum including history literature and english language arts. This role meets with students daily and coordinates project-based learning using the assignments and unit outlines provided by the classroom instructor. Working collaboratively with the Grade 7 team this role plays an important role in helping students develop foundational literacy skills in reading and writing while the classroom teacher is out on leave.This position will run from August 1 to October 15 2025


Responsibilities

  • Facilitating daily learning experiences with several groups of 15 to 22 students.
  • Maintaining comprehensive records of performance progress and goals using MV tools
  • Communicating with families learning coaches and outside providers
  • Participating in weekly school/division/team meetings
  • Meeting the needs of the division by helping with weekly coverage and duties

  • A track record of giving high-quality responsive feedback
  • Knowledge of inquiry-based learning pedagogies
  • Proficiency in Google Suite & Mac/Apple OS
Requirements
  • Bachelors degree in Humanities Literature History K-8 Education or related field
  • Classroom teaching experience and proficiency with technological tools and platforms

Start Date August 1 2025

End Date October 15 2025
