Job Description Summary
One-year fellowship focuses on clinical experiences as well as a robust didactic curriculum to provide well-rounded education intended to fully prepare an APP for a full-time position in specialty area of cardiology with an emphasis on advanced heart failure (including VAD patient) and cardiac transplant patients. By the end of the fellowship year the fellow will gain working knowledge of and not limited to: cardiovascular and cardiometabolic diseases cardiac dysrhythmias all stages and classes of heart failure identify all etiologies of cardiomyopathies evaluation diagnosis and treatment of heart failure proficient in GDMT for heart failure cardiographics and catheterizations care of chronically ill and critically ill shock states advanced therapy evaluations candidacy and work up heart transplant pre and post management and surveillance post-transplant complications and management identification and management of rejection post-transplant monitoring and guide line directed care for VAD patients hands on training on VAD equipment trouble shoot VAD equipment and interrogate/interpret VAD data post-VAD complications.Entity

Job Description
Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Salaried
Hours per week: Extended clinical schedule with additional didactic requirements
Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: October 2025 through September 2026. Shifts and total hours will vary based on rotation area: 8 hour shifts on outpatient rotation 10-13 hour shifts on inpatient/ICU rotations. Shifts may include nights weekends and holiday coverage.
Patient Population Focus
Patients with general cardiology conditions with an emphasis on patients with heart failure diagnosis LVADs or cardiac transplant recipients. Patient settings: clinic hospital floor ICU and imaging and procedural areas.

Required Minimum Training and Experience
Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.

Required Experience: None. APP Fellowship is geared for new graduates and for APPs wanting to change practice specialties
Degree of Supervision
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician the Fellowship APP Coordinator APP Fellowship Director and/or APP Manager.
Required Licensure Certifications Registrations
All certifications must be current and complete prior to start date:
Basic Life Support (BLS).
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for adult inpatient/OR/ED/ICU
If applicable DHEC license applications must be started prior to first day.
Job Duties (list job tasks)
Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:
Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
Evaluates and treats on the basis of history physical examination radiological laboratory and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
Performs therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief
Initiates referrals to other health care providers and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
Documents and bills for direct care provided when appropriate
Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice
Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research
Participates in and supports accreditation compliance and regulatory activities of the organization
Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education
Attends education and academic sessions as determined by APP Lead APP Manager or APP Fellowship Director
Completes presentations lectures QI projects or other academic requirements as set by MUSC APP Fellowship Director or Department
Participates in required MUSC APP Fellowship activities
APRN or PA must maintain licenses certifications CNEs/CMEs etc. as required by applicable policies and state law

Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist kneel climb stairs reach in all directions fully use both hands and legs possess good finger dexterity perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use initially and as . Maintain 20/40 vision corrected see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift lower push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (/-) unassisted exert up to 50 lbs of force lift from 36 to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
