Job Description Summary
The Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Division of Otology is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery. The APP will assist the attending physicians in clinic and provide care as an independent practitioner by evaluating new and follow-up patients performing histories and physical exams performing in-office procedures ordering of ancillary tests patient education phone calls for prescriptions/lab results and coordination of care. He or she will perform as liaison among inpatient and outpatient nurses nurse coordinators and physicians to provide the highest level of patient care. In addition they will serve as a dedicated health care professional who will review test results and educate patients on their disease process and treatment plan. The APP is expected to become the easily identifiable expert from the service who will return any patient telephone calls and answer their questions in a timely manner.Entity

Job Description
Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Salaried/Exempt
Hours per week: 40 hours/week
Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: Monday-Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm. Clinic locations may vary Downtown Charleston East Cooper and/or North Charleston.
Patient Population Focus: Outpatient
Patient Population Age Range: 13years-death
Required Minimum Training and Experience Training:
Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.

AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP): Adult pts (13 years to death) stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting.
FNP (Family NP): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management primary care across the lifespan.
Degree of Supervision:
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.
Required Licensure Certifications Registrations:
All certifications must be current and complete prior to start date:
Basic Life Support (BLS).
If applicable DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.
Job Duties (list job tasks)
Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:
Takes comprehensive history and performs physical examinations
Evaluates and treats on the basis of history physical examination radiological laboratory and other diagnostic test results pursuant to the practice agreement or scope of practice guideline
Performs the following therapeutic procedures in accordance with procedural privileges skill and proficiency as approved by the Clinical Division Chief including but not limited to:
o Diagnosis and management of common diseases of ear
o Removal of cerumen and/or foreign body in ear canal
o Myringotomy
o Middle ear injection
o External ear biopsy
o Removal of nasal foreign body
o Rigid and flexible nasal endoscopy
o Anterior/posterior nasal packing
o Incision and drainage of simple abscesses/hematomas (skin cysts helical hematoma)
o Wound debridement/dressing changes
Initiates referrals to other health care provides and/or consults with the attending physician or the collaborating physician
Documents and bills for direct care provided
Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice
Performs and participates in quality/performance improvement activities and clinical research
Participates in and supports accreditation compliance and regulatory activities of the organization Demonstrates responsibility for professional practice through active participation in professional organizations and continuing education
Potential to precept students at MUSC enrolled as an advanced practice provider student; and facilitates the learning of other new team members
APRN or PA must maintain licenses certifications CNEs/CMEs etc. as required by applicable policies and state law
This position requires the potential to travel to different sites/clinics: Charleston Downtown East Cooper and North Charleston
Additional Job Description
Masters degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing and two years clinical experience required at least one year of which must have been in a specialty area of care. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner specific to the area of employment required unless a new graduate. New graduates must be certification eligible upon employment and obtain certification within six months of employment. Requires licensure as a Registered Nurse and hold official recognition as a Nurse Practitioner from the South Carolina Board of Nursing.
