Role: The Accountant - Treasury role supports the financial management and operations of the credit union through maintenance of accounting records and reports. Prepares journal entries for posting to the general ledger and reconciles various general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance. Performs accounting duties of moderate complexity in accordance with standard procedures and under moderate supervision. Serves as a backup for the Automated Clearing House (ACH) In-Clearings (Share Drafts) & Member Wire Transfer operations. Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Reconciles cash accounts and other general ledger accounts posts to and balances general and subsidiary ledgers daily and routinely processes and files internal and external accounting reports. Responsible for IRD returned checks check adjustments cash orders and deposits and wire processing. - Balances ACH VISA Share drafts bill payment ATM and debit cards to the posting programs.
- Maintains Frontier and updates employee GLs as needed. Contacts other departments and/or outside agencies to resolve common problems.
- Tracks and maintains abandoned property annually.
- Develops and maintains procedures and desk procedures for the responsibilities of the position. Performs other duties as assigned.
Performance Measurements: - To ensure the department meets all deadlines with respect to settlement activities with minimal errors and no errors that result in losses to the Credit Union.
- To ensure that the Credit Unions books and general ledger accounts are always in balance and current.
- To increase efficiency and or quality of service by implementing procedural changes as required.
- To identify problems through research and resolve them.
- To provide friendly professional and accurate service and support to all members and associates.
Knowledge and Skills: Experience One year to three years of similar or related experience. Education (1) A bachelors degree or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelors degree (e.g. information technology certifications in lieu of a degree). Interpersonal Skills:Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for the purpose of first-level conflict resolution building relationships and soliciting cooperation. Discussions involve a higher degree of confidentiality and discretion requiring diplomacy and tact in communication. Other Skills:10-key proficiency; must be able to operate general office equipment. Intermediate level Microsoft Office Excel and Word experience. Experience working with Automated Clearing House and In-Clearing processing preferred. Physical Requirements:Ability to speak clearly with sufficient volume to be heard and ability to hear responses. Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Ability to focus on computer screen for extended periods of time. Ability to operate personal computer and 10-key calculator. Work Environment Traditional office setting.
