Job Summary
The UI Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is seeking an APP or PA who will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary care team by providing medical and psychological services to children and young adults in the Center for Disabilities and Development.In accordance with scope of practice as outlined by applicable state law regulations institutional policies and practice agreements the position will independently conduct comprehensive medical psychosocial and developmental health history physical assessments establish medical and psychiatric diagnoses order and evaluates developmental behavioral and diagnostic studies and develop treatment plans. This position will be required to work Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. This position may be eligible for a transition and relocation allowance.
Duties to include:
Obtains and documents a comprehensive medical psychosocial and developmental health history; performs and documents complete system-focused or symptom-specific physical examination assessment and plan of care.
In collaboration provides healthcare services for primary acute and complex care of patients and manages patients overall care initiates appropriate referrals and consultations and identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses.
Orders performs interprets and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated.
Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions.
Prescribes therapeutic interventions both pharmacologic non-pharmacologic and surgical/procedural needed to achieve expected outcomes.
Utilizes evidence-based approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care.
Provides specialty specific consultation services upon request and within specialty scope of practice.
Facilitates the patients transition between and within health care settings such as admitting transferring and discharging patients.
Participates in departmental educational conferences and clinical care meetings.
Accurately and appropriately complete documentation of patient care in the electronic medical record (EMR) and other records for compliance billing and other regulatory standards.
Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested/assigned.

About the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics:
The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP) provides compassionate and state-of-the-art clinical care for children witha variety of challenges and difficulties including developmental (cognitive language social behavioral motor) delays intellectual disabilities autism spectrum disorders hearing/vision impairments ADHDlearning disorders (such as dyslexia)feeding disordersdisruptive behavior disorders chronic painsyndromesand cerebral palsy. The DBP Division also provides leadership for the UI Stead Family Childrens Hospital Autism Center which is a collaborative program of the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Psychiatry.
Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner:
Required Qualifications
- A Masters degree is required. A Masters degree in Nursing is preferred. If Masters degree is in a related field a Baccalaureate degree in nursing is required
- Certification as Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner-Primary Care (PNP-PC) & Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) is preferred.
- Current ARNP license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa is required.
- Demonstrated experience in the clinical care of pediatrics.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with indirect supervision critical thinking/problem solving skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Federal DEA license.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in child and adolescent psychiatry and or developmental pediatrics.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in mental health.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in ambulatory care.
- Doctor of Nursing Practice degree (DNP)
Required Qualifications:
- Must comply with registration and licensure requirements as specified by the Iowa Board of Physician Assistant Examiners which include graduation from an accredited PA educational program and/or certification by the NCCPA.
- Current certification as Physician Assistant
- Current license to practice as a physician assistant in the State of Iowa
- Demonstrated experience in the clinical care of pediatrics.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with indirect supervision critical thinking/problem solving skills and is attention to detail.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Federal DEA license.
Desirable Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience inchild and adolescent psychiatry and or developmental pediatrics.
- Knowledge and experiencein mental health.
- Knowledge and experience in ambulatory care.

Pediatrics will be filling this position at one of two levels. The Physician Assistant classification salary range is $85080 -$153685 and the Adanced Registered Nurse Practitioner salary range s $85080 - $153685. You must indicate in your cover letter the level of classification (PA/ARNP) you wish to be considered for or indicate both. See required qualifications for additional information.
