CARE is a multidisciplinary veterinary specialist and emergency hospital in Collingwood centrally located on the fringe of Melbournes CBD.

We are seeking an experienced ECC Vet who thrives on a busy day and has a passion for providing the best patient care.

All our ECC veterinarians are supported by the specialist team and a core of Membership qualified ECC vets allowing excellent scope for continuing education opportunities and practical on-the-job training.

What we are offering:

  • We want you to join us on a permanent part or full time basis. Our team typically work 120 hrs per 4 week rotation. This is because we will invest in you and your development. Let us know how many hours suit you!
  • Genuine support while you transition into the role and throughout. We are busy but we want you to succeed. This includes shadow shifts with senior vets phone support collaboration on cases with other departments and skilled nurses. 
  • Shifts are 10 or 12.5 hours in length and are across 24 hours. Providing you with a work life balance is important especially in the ECC space we will work with you to create a balanced roster that includes both day and overnight shifts
  • Generous hourly rate. Be paid for the hours that you work!
  • Up to 5 weeks annual leave study leave and other perks.

The role:

The position involves primary responsibility for the treatment of primary accession and referred cases to our emergency and critical care department as well as shared care of hospitalised patients both from the primary emergency caseload and the other specialist departments. Management of cases in the ICU often involves discussion and assistance from multiple specialist disciplines providing an excellent opportunity for learning and case follow-up.

About us:

We are a large 24hr multidisciplinary hospital based in the eclectic inner-city neighbourhood of Collingwood (3km from the CBD). The hospital is staffed with an outstanding team of veterinarians nurses and support staff working alongside specialists in surgery internal medicine and emergency & critical care.

You will have access to a large suite of equipment including a variety of imaging modalities (Siemens 16-slice CT digital radiography digital subtraction fluoroscopy Phillips Affiniti and POC ultrasound machines regular off-site access to 3T MRI imaging) critical care (6 new Menios oxygen cages new Getinge Servo-u ventilator and high flow nasal oxygen) laboratory (Radiometer blood-gas machine IDEXX Procyte haematology Catalyst biochemistry and coagulation machines) and other equipment such as Olympus endoscopy and advanced anaesthetic monitoring.

About You:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent with Veterinary Registration in VIC essential
  • Experience in an emergency veterinary setting is desirable however if you have a great attitude and want to learn we want to hear from you!
  • An interest and some experience in routine and emergency surgery would be ideal
  • Commitment to being a team player good communicator and contributing to a positive workplace environment
  • Dedication to delivering compassionate and high-quality veterinary care
