Job Description

ROLE

Reporting the Youth Success (Community Safety and Wellbeing) Supervisor the Child Protection Worker Flex plays a vital role in supporting youth involved with child welfare through various service streams including Voluntary Youth Services Agreements (VYSA) Ready Set Go (RSG) Other Child Welfare (OCW) and Assessment & Ongoing services.

This position responds to the unique needs of youth who may be exposed to or engaged in youth violence human trafficking and/or experiencing mental health challenges. The worker provides individualized case management support grounded in trauma-informed anti-oppressive and culturally responsive practice with a focus on helping youth stabilize build meaningful connections and transition to adulthood with safety permanency and wellness.

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide protection services as defined under the Child Youth and Family Services Act (CYFSA) with a focus on parent-adolescent conflict youth engagement and community-based planning.
  • Deliver comprehensive case management to youth across child welfare streams including CIC VYSA RSG OCW and Ongoing Services through assessments individualized service plans and permanency planning.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. Youth Success Teams Trailblazers Youth Centre Mental Health and Human Trafficking Support Workers Kinship Family Support Placement) and external partners to address complex youth needs including those related to violence exploitation and mental health.
  • Use the agencys Practice Framework integrating Signs of Safety and Diversity Equity and Inclusion andTruth and Reconciliation(DEITR) to inform decision-making risk assessment and service planning.
  • Determine eligibility for service by applying relevant legislation agency policies and service standards; when appropriate refer families to other community programs or resources.
  • Work directly with caregivers foster parents kinship providers children and youth to carry out service plans that support emotional social and developmental well-being.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate timely documentation and recordings throughout all phases of case involvement ensuring compliance with Ministry and agency requirements.
  • Support the processing and eligibility assessment for VYSA and RSG service streams in alignment with Policy Directives and agency procedures.
  • Take on Assessment and Ongoing Protection case responsibilities as required to support service demands within the Youth Success Branch.
  • Actively contribute to the goals of the Youth Success Strategy with a focus on equity safety youth voice and long-term stability.
  • Remain flexible to meet changing service needs and perform other duties as required to strengthen empower and build meaningful connections for youth.
  • Perform other duties as required to support strengthen and empower youth towards meaningful connections and permanency.


JOB SPECIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES

  • Solid understanding of the exploration of permanency options for children brought to a place of safety.
  • Knowledge of ongoing and child in care issues with an emphasis on youth
  • Knowledge of investigation ongoing services and child-in-care and kinship standards.
  • Solid skills in child welfare case management
  • Functional understanding of Early Help & Prevention approaches and practices in child protection
  • Strong Signs of Safety practice lens regarding building the networks case trajectories and safety planning
  • Demonstrated knowledge and behaviours of DEI perspectives and practice
  • Superior skills and experience in clinical assessment counseling and crisis intervention
  • Proven ability to handle crises in a calm manner and work co-operatively within a team setting as well as the ability to elicit co-operation from others;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and particularly with outcome plans and reports
  • Familiar and knowledgeable of current issues involving youth in care transitioning into adulthood; and relevant services and supports
  • Knowledge of appropriate community services and interventions for Transitionally Aged Youth
  • Demonstrated skills in the areas of risk assessment and safety planning
  • Good computer skills
  • Proficiency in the French and other languages is an asset.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BSW or MSW degree from a recognized university and at least one year of related experience in a child protection role.

OR

  • A Bachelors Degree from a recognized university in a related field and at least one year of related experience in a child protection related role.
  • A class G drivers license and daily access to a vehicle are required.

HOURS OF WORK

  • 9am-5pm Monday to Friday
  • Working hours may vary and applicants must be flexible to work outside of standard office hours
