The role focuses on key financial functions such as budgeting auditing accounting and compliance and provides recommendations based on experiential knowledge. The consultant works closely with department leadership to ensure accurate and timely financial operations in alignment with governmental standards.
FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
This role supports the Finance Department by contributing to critical financial functions including audit preparation annual budget development and the creation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). The consultant will work closely with the Finance Director and Treasurer on treasury-related activities year-end reconciliation and pension-related duties. Responsibilities also include providing expert guidance on special projects and ensuring compliance with governmental accounting standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field (Masters or CPA preferred)
710 years of progressively responsible municipal finance or governmental accounting experience
Minimum 5 years in a senior-level role (e.g. Finance Director CFO or equivalent)
Strong understanding of GASB standards and governmental accounting
Familiarity with BS&A and OpenGov software preferred
Strong analytical skills and ability to meet deadlines
