As the CommonSpirit Health system expert in their specialty this position offers the clinical strategic framework for the Service Line. The System VP Service Line Physician leads across the multidisciplinary care continuum for their specialty. In collaboration with their dyad partner the system VP and the service line administrator. They spearhead the adoption of clinical quality standards and performance improvement initiatives to reduce patient harm optimize the cost and use of specialty-specific supplies and devices enhance measurable outcomes and eliminate unnecessary variation in price and quality while improving care coordination. Together the dyads identify strategic opportunities for growth caregiver engagement and patient experience.
In addition to leading the Behavioral Health National Service Line this role will also serve as the Collaborative Service Line Leader responsible for providing strategic direction and guidance to all System Collaborative Service Line Physician Leaders ensuring they align with clinical strategy and organizational objectives. The System VP Service Line Physician is a key member of the CommonSpirit Health clinical leadership team directly interacting with executive leaders and contributing to the ministry becoming a system of choice through an integrated operating organization with a healthy culture built on relationships trust and teamwork.
This role will significantly contribute to the development and implementation of system and local strategy transformation to a clinical enterprise achievement of successful physician alignment strategies achievement of patient experience and employee engagement goals and achievement of budgets. This position works collaboratively with system region and market inter disciplinary teams and leads the development of behavioral health processes and clinical standards across CommonSpirit. This position will be in active clinical practice in a CommonSpirit Health community.
Key Job Responsibilities
Collaborative Service Line Leadership
1. Oversight of Collaborative Service Line Physician Leaders
Provide leadership direction and strategic guidance to all System Collaborative Service Line Physician Leaders in collaboration with CPE ensuring alignment with organizational goals and fostering a synergistic environment across service lines. Offer strategic direction and guidance to all System Cooperative Service Line Physician Leaders ensuring they align with organizational objectives and promote a unified team-oriented environment across service lines. Represents the Collaborative Service lines in National Forums Clinical Leadership Council and to the Chief Physician Executive Officer.
Behavioral Health Physician Service Line Leadership
1. Leadership and Engagement
Engage and inspire physicians advanced practice providers and clinicians through education training and consults.
Engage physicians senior leaders and subject matter experts to identify and promulgate best and evidence-based practices in developing and implementing system initiatives and standards for care.
Provide direction expertise leadership education vision and strategic resources to system ministries.
Collaborate closely with the dyad partner System Service Line Administrator.
Provide physician leadership to the National Service Line working with the region and market clinical (CMO CNO PE) operational and dyad senior leadership on developing system priorities for clinical performance.
Lead the organization in identifying goals and developing strategies for implementation and adoption to ensure organizational improvements and outcomes are achieved.
Partner with service line regional dyad leadership and guide implementation where needed.
2. Quality and Performance Improvement
Oversee the development and implementation of service line-specific quality initiatives establishing clinical goals and working with system teams.
Monitor quality outcomes using balanced scorecards identifying opportunities to implement clinical standards for care delivery across the continuum.
Provide data benchmarks and analysis to improve care and outcomes.
Provide leadership and direction on physician peer review appropriate use criteria and physician-specific quality initiatives.
Identify measure and improve priorities for service line-specific clinical performance.
3. Collaboration and Support
Receive support from and collaborate with key stakeholders (Strategy Operations Supply Chain Information Technology Innovation Clinical Research Institute Pharmacy Advocacy Academics etc.).
Collaborate with other national groups to support the development of risk-based payment models for services.
Collaborate closely with dyads across other clinical institutes and service line specialties.
4. Care Standardization and Efficiency
Standardize service line definition structure and reporting system-wide.
Rationalize services within markets and regions to reduce internal competition.
Inform and recommend operational best practices and efficiencies.
Develop and provide benchmarked results and descriptive analytics to improve care.
Standardize contracting and compensation models.
5. Strategic Growth Planning and Innovation
Define and designate Centers of Excellence across the system to align strategic clinical priorities meaningfully.
Act as a key strategy partner for driving growth long-range strategic planning and evaluating joint venture partners.
Support and lead service line assessment of new technologies and innovative approaches to care delivery ensuring patient access to leading-edge treatments.
Bring together all modalities of treatment and care strategies for patients to create an integrated and innovative roadmap for the system.
Participate in the care continuum to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care delivery.
Expand service line research capabilities and access to leading clinical trials enhancing care to the community.
Provide leadership insights on service line-specific precision medicine strategies and approaches.
Partner with acute telehealth services to ensure service line alignment.
6. Operational Oversight and Financial Management
Ensure the service line contributes to the organizations growth plans and financial sustainability.
Oversee and approve key hires ideally ensuring the Medical Group employs clinical service line leaders.
Lead the organization in identifying goals and developing strategies for implementation and adoption to ensure organizational improvements and outcomes are achieved.
Engage physicians key senior leaders and subject matter experts in developing and implementing service line-specific system initiatives and evidence-based care.
Partner with finance supply chain and pharmacy leadership to reduce device and pharmaceutical costs and provide guidance on equipment and supply selection.
Develop and provide benchmarked results and descriptive analytics to improve care.
