Job Description:

Job Summary

Data Risk Management (DRM) provides second line oversight and challenge of data risk in support of TDs Enterprise Data Management Strategy. At a high level this role will be expected to:

  • Demonstrate data management and risk management expertise.
  • Effectively challenge the first line and identify communicate mitigate report and escalate data risk in alignment with requirements.
  • Provide independent opinion commentary and recommendations based on strategy and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrate risk intelligence behaviors and outcomes while operating within the Banks risk appetite.

Key Accountabilities:

CUSTOMER

  • Proactively analyze potential risks and ensure key risks are aggregated / escalated to appropriate areas.
  • Lead ongoing risk measurement activities by acquiring analyzing and reporting business risk metrics to prioritize challenge activities.
  • Establish and provide regular risk analysis and reporting on data risk to communicate challenge prioritization to senior managers and leaders.
  • Create communication decks to communicate data risk analysis and impacts.
  • Drive Workback Schedules to ensure data risk deliverables are on time.
  • Lead established enterprise-wide risk escalation review and approval processes data management policies and risk assessment processes.
  • May also monitor/report on compliance management and strategic initiatives
  • Provide regular commentary and industry analysis in supporting the development/ maintenance/ oversight of policies/ procedures/ practices

SHAREHOLDER

  • Lead execution of challenge activities of assigned portfolio (business segments or corporate functions)
  • Lead issues management work by performing the role of issue coordinator and occasionally issuer as needed
  • Provide back-up assistance to Senior Managers overseeing other portfolios
  • Adhere to enterprise frameworks or methodologies that relate to activities for our business area
  • Ensure respective programs/policies/practices are well managed meets business needs complies with internal and external requirements and aligns with business priorities
  • Consistently exercise discretion in managing correspondence information and all matters of confidentiality; escalate issues where appropriate
  • Ensure business operations are in compliance with applicable internal and external requirements ( e.g. financial controls segregation of duties transaction approvals and physical control of assets)
  • Participate in cross-functional / enterprise / initiatives as a subject matter expert helping to identify risk / provide guidance for complex situations
  • Conduct internal and external research projects; support the development/ delivery of presentations / communications to management or broader audience
  • Conduct meaningful analysis at the functional or enterprise level using results to draw conclusions make recommendations assess the effectiveness of programs/ policies/ practices
  • Actively manage relationships within and across various business lines corporate and/or oversight functions and ensure alignment with enterprise and/or regulatory requirements
  • Maintain a culture of risk management and control supported by effective processes in alignment with risk appetite

BREADTH & DEPTH

  • Ability to understand and apply TDs Enterprise Risk Framework Taxonomy to qualitative commentary as part of challenge work
  • Expert level professional role requiring in-depth knowledge / expertise in own domain / field of specialty and working knowledge of broader related areas
  • Integrates the broader organizational context into advice and solutions within own area
  • Understands the industry competition and the factors that differentiate the organization
  • Applies best practices to implement process product or service improvements
  • Acts as a subject matter expert within their own area of specialty or a resource for others
  • Leads projects of moderately to complex risk and resource requirements; may lead end-to-end processes or functional programs
  • Contributes to setting standards within area of expertise
  • Solves complex problems requiring analysis of multiple variables including consultation with multiple stakeholders
  • Uses advanced methods to contribute to new solutions and recommend standards against which others will operate
  • Impacts a range of functional programs and operations across own and related teams
  • Interprets guidelines standards policies and results of analysis to inform decision making at senior levels
  • Builds stakeholder alignment in leading projects and activities; may provide process and subject matter advice at senior levels
  • Works independently as the senior technical lead and guides others within area of expertise
  • Identifies and leads problem resolution for complex issues at all levels
  • Generally reports to a Senior Manager or above

The successful candidate must have at least 3 of the following skills/experience:

  • Communication
  • (Most critical) Modern Risk Experience (outside perspective with demonstrated results)
  • (Most critical) AI Literacy/Computer Science
  • (Most critical) Demonstrated Experience in Org/Process Transformation
  • Legal/Compliance/Bank Experience in addition to Cyber/Tech or AI

Experience & Education

  • Undergraduate degree or technical certificate and/or
  • 5 years relevant experience (e.g. 1b or 2a experience data management data governance operational risk)

Skill Sets

  • Must be organized proactive responsive
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including presentation skills and well-developed listening and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to take complex analysis and summarize.
  • Proficient in Excel and power point
  • Proficient in issues management at TD (e.g. familiar with MERLIN/eGRC) a must; proficiency in Data Issue Governance (DIG) an asset
  • Superb time management skills
  • Familiar with Operational and Data Risk
