The Director of Project Engineering is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for all technical aspects of our multi-site manufacturing and facility operations. From conceptual design to implementation and optimization this role oversees capital project execution asset lifecycle management and continuous improvement across 7 plants.
This position manages a team of 5 engineers and plays a critical role in developing a 5-year strategic roadmap that aligns engineering efforts with company goals. The Director will influence technology adoption operational efficiency and manufacturing scalability in a highly regulated fast-paced environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESLead the development and execution of long-term capital and engineering strategies across all production facilities
Oversee design procurement installation and commissioning of new equipment and infrastructure projects
Collaborate cross-functionally with operations quality maintenance and supply chain to ensure engineering alignment with business goals
Manage and mentor a high-performing team of engineers fostering innovation and technical excellence
Identify production and process optimization opportunities; lead initiatives for cost reduction quality improvement and equipment utilization
Develop and manage annual capital budgets and multi-year investment plans
Execute projects with strict adherence to timelines budgets safety protocols and compliance requirements
Lead efforts around regulatory compliance (e.g. food safety OSHA)
Champion lean manufacturing principles and the use of continuous improvement methodologies
Serve as an internal technical expert and external representative at industry events
Drive the Management of Change (MOC) process for major modifications and projects
Stay informed on emerging technologies and trends in beverage manufacturing
The ideal candidate is a visionary engineering leader who thrives on complexity builds high-performing teams and turns strategy into execution. You bring a passion for operational excellence and a deep understanding of beverage or FMCG manufacturing systems.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Engineering or a related field (Mechanical Electrical Industrial or Chemical preferred)
Minimum 8 years of progressive experience in engineering leadership
Proven success managing large-scale capital projects across multiple locations
Strong background in food beverage FMCG or other highly regulated manufacturing environments
Demonstrated ability to lead in a LEAN or continuous improvement culture
Deep understanding of carbonated soft drink bottled water or similar beverage processes (preferred)
Strong project management skills with the ability to drive strategic outcomes
Exceptional communication presentation and change management skills
Willingness and ability to travel as needed across central U.S. (approx. 30-40%)
Must relocate or reside within commuting distance of Watertown WI (Greater Milwaukee Area)
