A privately held real estate investment and development firm based in Philadelphia is seeking a hands-on and detail-driven Controller to lead its financial operations. This opportunity is ideal for a finance professional who thrives in a dynamic fast-paced environment and is looking to make a meaningful impact within a growing portfolio of commercial properties.
As Controller you will be entrusted with full oversight of the firms accounting functions spanning multiple legal entities and real estate assets. You will work closely with ownership and senior management to provide timely accurate financial insights while ensuring operational accuracy across daily accounting workflows. Your scope will include both strategic and tactical responsibilities-from building robust reporting systems to managing cash flow tracking construction costs handling tenant billing and maintaining escrow and compliance-related records.
In this role your ability to maintain clarity and precision in financial reporting will be just as critical as your command over the general ledger and reconciliations. You will oversee payroll support budgeting processes lead monthly closings and establish clear internal controls. The firm operates within a multi-entity structure and your understanding of intercompany activity and consolidations will be a major asset in streamlining financial data.
Prior experience in real estate or construction accounting will position you well particularly if youve worked with complex ownership structures or handled large development budgets. Familiarity with industry-specific software such as Sage 300 CRE (or Timberline) is highly desirable though strong Excel proficiency and adaptable systems experience are equally valued.
The ideal candidate brings between five and ten years of progressive accounting experience including several years at the controller or senior accountant level. A Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance is required; a CPA designation is strongly preferred. Most importantly the right person for this role is highly organized deadline-focused and comfortable engaging directly with internal stakeholders lenders and external auditors.
