Job Description

Summary:
We are seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for a 13-week travel contract. This role requires coverage in floor care emergency response and rapid/code situations. The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience preferably in Level I Trauma and teaching hospital settings. First-time travelers are accepted. The therapist may be required to float between units based on acuity and facility needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Deliver respiratory therapy treatments and interventions to acute patients across inpatient floors emergency department and critical care units

  • Administer medications including: Albuterol Atrovent Tobramycin Xopenex Racemic Epinephrine Pulmicort Combivent and others

  • Manage and troubleshoot ventilators (BiPAP CPAP and high-pressure alarms)

  • Perform extubation airway placement/suctioning (oral/nasal) and tracheostomy care

  • Conduct ABG interpretation and monitor oxygen therapy (Trach collar T-piece nebulizers)

  • Respond to code situations and rapid responses

  • Float between units depending on patient acuity and operational needs

  • Maintain accurate documentation and participate in interdisciplinary collaboration

Key Requirements:
  • Minimum 2 years of recent RRT experience

  • Must be willing to float and cover floor ER and rapid/code response

  • Block scheduling required

  • Must work every other weekend

  • 48-hour schedule allowed with approval

  • First-time travelers accepted

  • Must be comfortable in fast-paced acute settings

  • Teaching hospital or Trauma Level I experience preferred

Qualifications

Education:

  • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of RRT experience in acute settings

  • Preferred: ER pediatric trauma or teaching hospital background

License:

  • Active RRT credential

  • Washington State License required

  • No pending licenses accepted

Certifications:

  • Required: BLS RRT

  • Preferred: ACLS PALS

Skills:

  • Respiratory Care: BiPAP/CPAP management ventilator weaning high-pressure alarm troubleshooting

  • Medications: Inhaled steroids bronchodilators Flolan* Ketamine* Theophylline* Nitric Oxide*

  • Procedures: Extubation trach suctioning sputum collection airway placement (nasal/oral)

  • Settings: ER* floor care trauma pediatric (preferred)

  • Therapy Delivery: Trach collar nebulizers (hand-held T-piece)

  • Clinical Proficiency: ABG interpretation oxygen delivery systems code/rapid response participation

  • Charting System: Not specified (inquire for confirmation during interview)
