Job Description

The Director of Financial Planning and Analysis will aid the University in timely and accurate development fiscal planning strategic analysis and management of its operating budget. The Director is a crucial partner to Pepperdine administrators enabling them to make well informed strategic decisions.

This position directs the Financial Planning and Analysis team to effectively steward the Universitys resources and ensure proper measures are followed related to the overall University budget. Excellence can more easily be achieved in academic areas when quality financial data exists to more confidently and quickly inform decisions that affect the student.

Duties

  • Oversee the development implementation and monitoring of the Universitys operating and capital budgets including leading the annual planning cycle.
  • Lead and manage the Department of Financial Planning and Analysis. Serve as the primary partner to the University community regarding all budget-related matters. Manage with budget integrity and ensure compliance with University financial policies.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive budget reports dashboards and presentations for the Chief Financial Officer translating complex financial data into clear understandable information for strategic decision making.
  • Develop and maintain annual forecasts and compare to the Board-Approved Budget and historical trends. Clearly identify significant variances investigate root causes and provide actionable insights and recommendations to the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Direct all functional and technical aspects of the Universitys planning and budgeting system (Oracle PBCS) in order to ensure streamlined financial data input and reporting for University budget managers and leadership.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to develop and maintain multi-year financial pro formas for new programs centers and institutes re-envisioned supporting departments and annual strategic initiatives.
  • Advise the Chief Financial Officer and senior leadership on the allocation of budget resources to best support the Universitys strategic priorities Christian mission academic excellence and operational efficiency.
  • Manage budget revision process to ensure budgetary integrity and compliance with University financial policies.
  • Independently perform ad hoc budget analysis by developing sophisticated financial models that contemplate various scenarios and outcomes due to policy or regulatory changes shifts in the enrollment climate and general the state of school-specific markets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Uphold University mission through work performed.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • A Masters of Business Administration degree CPA or equivalent degree
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a related field or three years in the Higher Education field. Excellent communication skills
  • Has a strong work ethic and is self-motivated
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills with an emphasis on managing multiple tasks and people;
  • Ability to mentor analysts and focus on professional development and growth. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and ability to quickly adapt to new financial systems.

Preferred:

  • Ten years of experience in a related field or five years in the Higher Education field.
  • Proficient in Oracle PBCS PeopleSoft.

Qualified individuals should be able to show respect for workplace differences and have the ability to work effectively with individuals from different backgrounds.

Offers of employment are contingent upon successful completion of a criminal education and employment screening. This is a Regular Exempt 40 hour per week position.

Expected Pay Range: $140250 - $165000 per year

Candidates who meet all of the required and preferred qualifications may be considered for the Senior Director of Financial Planning and Analysis position. The expected pay range for this role is $166000 - $175000.

The above pay range reflects what Pepperdine University reasonably expects to pay for this position at time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors such as work experience market conditions education/training and skill level. In addition to base pay Pepperdine offers a robust and highly competitivebenefits package.
