Job Description
St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Derwood MD is seeking to hire an individual to serve as Assistant to the parish Catechetical Leader. Applicants must be an active practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Catholic Church and demonstrate a passion for helping students and their families know love and serve God and follow Jesus Christ as missionary disciples. Working under the supervision of the Director of Religious Education (DRE) the Assistant will support Elementary and Middle School Religious Education program activities including weekly classes and sacrament preparation and must be available to work evenings and weekends. This is a 12 month benefits eligible hourly position averaging 30 hours/week.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide supervision and support during Religious Education class times
- Support Religious Education program activities and sacrament preparation including communicating with catechists and families processing program registration ensuring that accurate student records are on file for all students maintaining inventory of textbooks and supplies and coordinating set up needs for classes and program events
- Support catechists and other volunteers with resources supplies and information about program and formation opportunities
- Serve as Parish Child Protection and Safe Environment Local Coordinator
- Support summer Vacation Bible Camp
- Work collaboratively with parish DRE Pastor and other parish staff
Job qualifications:
- Experience and training in catechesis preferred
- Ability to work effectively with volunteers students and parents
- Excellent written and verbal skills
- Accountability attention to detail and collaborative ministerial spirit
- Available to work evenings and weekends
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and open to learning database tools (ParishSoft)
- Good Organizational and Planning Skills
- English/Spanish bilingual proficiency is a plus
- Willingness to pursue continuing education including catechist certification
