Job Description

Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to formulate and direct the public relations efforts of various city departments. The work responsibilities of this position are: to advise the Mayor and Communications Director on media and citizen interactions;implement digital and social media content to disseminate to the public; coordinate with various departments and other entities to produce digital content; and develop and execute short and long-term digital and social media strategies. Work is performed independently using considerable judgment initiative and tact. This classification reports to the Director of Communications.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelorsdegree with major course work in Journalism Communications Public Relationsor a related field and three (3) years of experience in the field of publicaffairs public relations public and internal information journalism or communicationsas social media content creator or similar role with proficiency in usingsocial media management tools and analytics platforms.

NOTE: Qualifying education training andexperience that provide the requisite knowledge skills and abilities toperform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must possessexceptional organizational and time management skills along with excellentwritten and verbal communication abilities strong interpersonal skillsadaptability attention to detail and a willingness to work occasionalevenings or weekends to support the citys branding strategy. The employee willwork in a fast-paced environment spending much of the day traveling fromvarious events to meetings throughout the city and must be able to workindependently.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill a vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with theCity of Montgomery Communications Department.Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire. For this reason applicants are urged to fill in the application form and the supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held the dates they held them where and exactly what their duties were. If more thanfive qualified applications are received the supplemental questionnaire will be used to rank applicants. Tied scores will not be there are five or less qualified applicants they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
