Position Summary:Deliver screening services to children using DESE approved developmental screening instruments. Record and score the screening protocol as directed in the DESE approved instrument conference with parents as needed and submit referrals when needed.
Qualifications:
Education: Minimum requirement of 60 hours of college credit and two years of successful experience working with young children and families OR
High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of four years of experience working with young children and families. Training in the Parents As Teachers Foundational Curriculum is preferred.
Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of child development of 2-5 year old children and how preschool age children learn and develop. Understanding of DESE approved screening instruments vision hearing and dental screening tools.
Experience: Demonstrated ability to work with young children required. Skilled at structuring and presenting verbal communication to children ranging from preschool age to adult individuals
Job Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
-Prepares paperwork required for the screening
-Sets up screening area if necessary
-Introduces self to family
-Explains screening process in a manner that is family friendly; this includes explanation of the consent form screening protocol health record vision hearing and dental screenings
-Administers approved screening instrument accessing language concepts and motor development according to screening instrument guidelines
-Provides parents with social/emotional questionnaire or instrument for their completion
-Administers vision hearing and dental screenings which may include functional assessments and/or other instruments as indicated in the ECDA manual
-Records all screening information on screening protocol and summary forms
-Summarizes screening for parents/guardians using screening protocol and summary forms
-Shares appropriate developmental materials for parents to continue to encourage their childs development in the home which may include activity sheets or alternate intervention sheets
-Explains other appropriate information concerning district early childhood programs such as Parents as Teachers and/or preschool opportunities
-Demonstrates the ability to engage and empower parents/guardians
-Listens to parent concerns/questions. Provides appropriate information or resources that may be beneficial to the parent and child
-Recognizes the need for a further referral
-Demonstrates knowledge of district and community resources
-Explains the referral process to parents/guardians
-Completes proper documentation including referral forms and alternative strategies
