Job Description
Albemarle Corporation is looking for a Quality Control Laboratory Coordinator for its Magnolia AR location. This position reports to the Quality Control Lab Manager. The Lab Coordinator is responsible for organizing and directing the daily activity of the laboratory. This involves supervision of laboratory shift team leaders and executing on policies and procedures to support laboratory operations.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Sustain an operating culture that has a high degree of safety awareness and environmental responsibility.
- Manage and develop Laboratory Shift Team Leaders and hold them accountable for day-to-day and technical leadership of the Laboratory Area. Administrative responsibility for these roles.
- Mentor Technicians and Shift Team Leaders in relation to Laboratory Operations.
- Ensures lab employees comply with site and corporate safety and environmental policies.
- Focus on continual improvement of the Unit.
- Ensure the needs of the Laboratory are coordinated with Lab Manager routinely (Staffing CAPEX Maintenance Costs etc.)
- Escalate issues as needed to minimize their impact. Work closely with Lab Manager to keep priorities in line with plant priorities.
- Execute duties of Shift Team Leader when necessary for absence coverage
Key Activities:
- Coordinate daily / weekly priorities with Lab Manager
- Help drive long term continuous improvement initiatives
- Shipping samples to both internal and external customers
- Review and approve Incident Reports.
- Review and approve Operating Procedures.
- Enter SAP purchase requisitions for laboratory chemicals not held by internal warehouse
- Coordinate with Area chemists for vendor site visits
- Regularly consult with Maintenance group to keep laboratory running efficiently.
- Audit area permits housekeeping JSA FJO 5S to ensure continuous improvement.
Critical Albemarle Partnerships:
- Maintenance - Effectively communicates long-term needs and priorities.
- Complex Advisor - Utilizes technical expertise for continuous improvement of the laboratory
- Business Team - Understand and respond to production /quality requirements.
- Safety and Regulatory Advisors - Enforce all site required programs / initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years in a specialty chemicals laboratory
- Minimum of 3 years of management experience
- Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels
Preferred:
- Bachelors Degree in Chemistry or related
Reporting Structure:
- Direct Reports - Lab Shift Team Leaders (2)
- Indirect Reports - Laboratory Technicians (18)
Magnolia site employees should be aware of both the Albemarle Magnolia Site Quality Policy and the Albemarle Magnolia Site Quality Objectives plus understand how their role contributes to each. Employees are required to follow and support the requirements of our quality management system which is available on the ISO Sync site and can be accessed through Albert by all site workers.
