Reporting to the Director of Emergency Services the Patient Safety Assistant (PSA) supports the nursing staff in the care of behavioral health patients focusing on maintaining the safety of patients and staff. As a member of the healthcare team PSAs perform a variety of non-clinical duties to ensure that patients and visitors are provided with services that reflect the hospitals commitment to a safe secure and customer-focused environment. Responsibilities include empathic interactions with patients occasional de-escalation of physically aggressive patients and ongoing collaboration with security nursing and medical staff.

I. Major Responsibilities:

Environmental Cleaning and Maintenance
1. Loads service cart with appropriate materials and supplies for assigned area.
2. Operates and cleans various types of cleaning equipment (mechanical and electrical).
3. Cleans operating suites using germicidal cleaning solutions and arranges furniture and equipment.
4. Cleans patient rooms observing isolation techniques and ensuring a safe clean environment.
5. Cleans assigned areas including walls doors ceilings fixtures and

Unless certification licensure or registration is required an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
