Job Description

This position is responsible for accounting and budgeting functions within the department. Coordinates and maintains accounting operations and acts as a budgeting specialist for the department of Residential life. Analyzes expenditures and trends to make recommendations for long range planning. The position manages the long-range planning model develops and maintains complex long-term modeling showing various construction project scenarios and room rate scenarios. The position prepares and presents financial reports for the Director VPs Finance & Administration staff and MNSCU staff for the campus and department decision process.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three years accounting experience or equivalent professional experience.

  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices sufficient to coordinate various phases of departmental accounting functions.

  • Financial management and analysis skills sufficient and the ability to apply them to strategic and business planning problem identification and resolution.

  • Working knowledge of financial statistical database and spreadsheet software sufficient to apply to business needs.

  • Prepare and interpret complex fiscal records and reports recognize problems and effect solutions.

  • Working knowledge of budgeting policies and practices sufficient to prepare review and analyze annual operating budgets and internal fiscal documents.

  • Ability to relate accounting systems to overall functions of the department/agency.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers other employees and the public.

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or related field

  • Experience in directing work activities of co-workers and staff.

  • Experience in auditing and interpreting financial and budget documents.

  • Ability to analyze fiscal reports for adherence and conformance to federal laws state statutes and department policies.

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment

Work safely at all times which includes but is not limited to participating and completing all required safety trainings as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools equipment and personal protective equipment.
