Reports to: Classroom Teacher
Qualifications: High School diploma Associates or Bachelor degree. Experience working with children with special needs preferred.
Scope of Duties:
Responsible to and functions under the direction of the classroom Teacher.
Assist the teacher in the delivery of instruction and the implementation of the IEP Goals and objectives.
Ensure the safety of the children in all environments.
Assist in facilitating independence social awareness language and appropriate behavior.
Implement behavior support plan.
Assist the teacher in theimplementation of accomodations or modifications to enable students to access curriculum.
Assist the teacher in the collection of data.
Participates in training in relevant areas.
Carries out other assigned duties for example; supervise student(s)at lunch or in the playground; personal care support such as toileting self care clerical tasks etc. as assigned by the classroom teacher program principal or executive director.
Experience working with students with severe disabilities and Applied Behavior Analysis preferred. Candidates must be able to work with students with significantly challenging behavior. Candidates must have mobility required to sufficiently assist students with disabilities with physical needs personal care and behavioral challenges. Frequent standing stooping bending kneeling pushing and pulling. (e.g. Move small stacks of textbooks media equipment desks and other classroom or adaptive equipment lift and position students with physical disabilities). Must possess the ability to lift push pull and/or carry up to 40-50 pounds on an occasional basis and have the ability to move quickly from standing to kneeling and back to standing without using hands to push off the floor. May be required to physically restrain students in situations where there is a risk of serious and imminent harm. Candidates must be able to maintain emotional control under stress. SEEM will provide training for de-escalation and physical intervention.
Employment is contingent upon passing a SAFIS fingerprint and CORI screening.
