Title: Library Media Specialist-Long-Term SubstituteThis position will begin mid-October 2025 and run through January 2026Reports to: Assistant Head of School The Miami Valley School (MVS). Our mission is to challenge young people of promise to become self-sustaining learners and compassionate global citizens. Here we learn because we do. The Role. MVS is seeking a dynamic and innovative Library Media Specialist. The ideal candidate is passionate and skillful as both a librarian and an educator eager to invest their talents in creating a welcoming up to date physical space as well as inspiring our learners. This person must establish a supportive and engaging environment for students ranging in age from three to eighteen demonstrate the ability to create developmentally appropriate curricula work collaboratively with colleagues and parents have excellent communication skills and demonstrate teaching proficiency and comfort with a variety of different teaching and learning styles. The candidate will be responsible for meeting the communitys ever-changing information needs through developing the library collection and identifying appropriate electronic Opportunity. Here you and your team will integrate academics hands-on activities and scholarly habits via cross-curricular designs and models of Academic Rigor with Increased Accessibility. Through your intentional planning and development of coursework our students will explore their unique learning needs utilize critical thinking and begin to think about and create solutions for todays pressing as part of a World-Class Team. In your role teaching at MVS you will work alongside dedicated faculty who have taught and learned all over the world and in a variety of school contexts. In this position you will be a Library Media Specialist working with students of all ages at the :Utilize the MVS Immersion Method Mind Brain Education best practices and the MVS Social Emotional Learning program in the classroom;Embrace Mastery Teaching at MVS and Mastery Performance;Demonstrate a commitment to culturally inclusive curricula and inclusive classroom practices;Demonstrate a lifelong appreciation for healthy and creative decision-making in their students;Demonstrate an ability to develop rapport with students;Build collaborative partnership with students caregivers and colleagues;Demonstrate a commitment to life-long learning and ongoing professional development;Communicate effectively with the MVS community about the Schear Library both verbally and in writing including prospective and current parents and alumni;Demonstrate a strong knowledge of emerging technologies trends and opportunities to assure the Libraries capabilities and impact;Solid vision of the essential role of an effective 21st Century library program in K-12 education;Develop a lifelong appreciation for exploration of ideas and reading for pleasure in their students Responsibilities:Collaborate with the Assistant Head of School to establish a continuity of curriculum and instruction from early childhood through 12th grade;Conduct research instruction sessions and collaborate with teachers to develop research assignments that support 21st century skills and critical thinking;Plan and teach K-12 class sessions lessons read alouds book talks and activities as required by grade/division;Lead improvements to school-wide information literacy and digital citizenship curriculum based on forward-thinking state and national educational standards;Support and promote open access and intellectual freedom;Tracking usage data; evaluating and reporting the effectiveness and value of library services to the MVS community;Develop and create collections for K-5 classes from all available resources;Responsibly managing library budget/expenses in accordance with Business Office guidelines;Developing library policies that ensure equitable access to materials and that align with the ALA Code of Ethics;Conducting all day-to-day library operations including:CirculationReaders advisoryRecruiting scheduling and training library volunteers when possibleCollection development (selection acquisition weeding) for the physical and digital collectionsCataloging new materials and preparing new materials for circulationMaintaining a functional accessible and inviting library space Qualifications:Master of Library and Information Science or Master of Education;Enthusiasm and amiability in working with children of all ages;Demonstrate computer literacy and proficiency (e.g. Google suite of applications student information systems and online grade book programs) and Koha ILS strongly preferred but not requiredBenefits.
