The Assistant Director of Student Engagement under general direction coordinates develops and assesses the full scope of departmental programs to include student leadership development campus-wide initiatives and co-curricular programs. The Assistant Director of Student Engagement advises student organizations and supports the Director of Student Engagement in the management and oversight of the department.
This position may pay more than the salary listed above depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
Responsibilities:
Serve as liaison between students administration staff university faculty vendors and community members to facilitate the success of student leadership development programs and events. Coordinate the development and implementation of a series of student leadership development programs to include the Certified Student Leader program and the Student Organization Leadership Development program. (S.O.L.D) Leadership Round tables and workshops with student organizations creation of Strength Quest workshops and work to develop and grow leadership skills of student organization participants. Advise student leaders and develop the lecture series along with various educational social and cultural events. Assist with the collaboration of several campus-wide and traditional events for example: Homecoming Week of Welcome Welcome Back Week and Spring Fest. Oversee the creation and implementation of a menu of summer leadership programs for students attending PVAMU. Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Engagement.
Maintain a working relationship with vendors departments and venues on campus. Negotiate with agents and execute contractual talent paperwork. Develop budgets and maintain financial operations to ensure appropriate spending within financial parameters.
Responsible for developing assessment-driven student learning outcomes assisting with risk management policies development. Collaborate with the University marketing department to create effective marketing strategies for students.
Participate in national regional and local professional development opportunities as available. Serve on university department and unit committees as assigned. Responsible for staying abreast with best practices associated with college student engagement.
Performs other duties as assigned. Supports the division for Student Affairs in divisional efforts.
Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree
Six years of related experience in management of Student Activities programs.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent written communication analytical interpersonal and organizational skills.
Other Requirements:
Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
Work beyond normal office hours and/or work weekends.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree from an accredited institution specific to event management/planning hospitality communications public relations education business leadership studies marketing or student affairs. Advanced degree in student affairs counseling or related field.
Experience in a college work environment.
Working knowledge of Engaged - formally known as OrgSync.
Comfortable advising students from a variety of social and economic backgrounds and passion for developing leaders.
Familiarity with event planning.
Knowledge of budgeting and accounting.
Intermediate proficiency level with Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook required.
Proficiency in the typical skills of an administrative support position such as scheduling organizing meetings filing copying typing phone usage message taking recordkeeping and greeting others.
