Job Description

We are currently recruiting a Legal Assistant to join our Intellectual Property Department in our Ottawa office. The successful candidate will provide administrative support to a team of Patent Litigation Associates and Articling Students in addition to a team of Legal Assistants. The successful candidate must demonstrate initiative high attention to detail and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. The position requires very strong communication skills both written and verbal in addition to strong client service skills and organization.

Position Requirements:

Education and Experience

The successful incumbent will have a Community College Certificate in a Legal Secretarial Assistant program or equivalent. Ideal candidate would possess a minimum of 3 years of experience in a Legal Secretarial Assistant role. An equivalent combination of education training and experience is acceptable.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong communication organizational and technical skills (MS Office suite).
  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian Patent Litigation would be an asset.
  • Proactive and work well in both a team and independent work environment.
  • Show initative and display an interest in developing their knowledge of this practice area.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Impeccable attention to detail is required.

We are currently working in a hybrid work arrangement which includes a requirement to work primarily in the Ottawa office and flexibility to work remotely up to 2 days per week.
