Job Description

Required Education:Bachelors degree AND:

  • 36 months of computer programming/analysis experience.

Equivalency Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelors degree for a total of 84 months of related experience.

Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students faculty and staff
  • Strong initiative to solve problems
  • Knowledge of current technology trends and advancements through self-learning conferences and in-class training
  • Detail-oriented for accuracy of data and information.
  • Ability to communicate well and to build rapport quickly with undergraduate and graduate students postdocs staffand faculty.
  • Understanding of multi-user computing systemsenvironments and networks.
  • Basic understanding of key system concepts andenvironments such as operating systems interconnectionnetworks file systems and compilers/interpreters.
  • Ability to cultivate functional working relationships withfaculty researchers students staff IT professionals andother stakeholders and to work constructively with thosestakeholders to solve technical and research problems.
  • Ability to think creatively and innovatively abouttechnical and/or nontechnical challenges and to adapt torapidly changing technology and requirements.
  • Ability to locate and utilize technical documentation and other resources related to technical challenges.
  • Ability to organize investigations into technical and/ornontechnical problems to collect information and to drawappropriateconclusions.
  • Ability to deal effectively with stressful situationscritical deadlines and a user base with high service levelexpectations and a wide range of computing knowledge andsophistication.
  • Scripting and/or programming skills.
  • Ability to support a broad variety of softwareapplications running on research computing systemsincluding installation.

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions. Must be able to sit and or stand for short and extended periods of time. Standard office environment.

Department Preferences:

  • Experience and proficiency with version control(for example git).
  • Experience with any STEM (Science Technology Engineeringor Mathematics) field.
  • Experience and proficiency with supercomputing (high-performance computing) and/or cloud computing and/or similar areas of computing.
  • Experience working with researchers/scholars.
  • Experience and proficiency with storage systems especially parallel and/or distributed storage systems and/or software-defined storage.
  • Experience and proficiency with system administration ofany Unix-like operating system (e.g. Linux).
  • Experience and proficiency with network administration.
  • Participate in ongoing efforts to document design develop maintain enhance and decommission supercomputing (high performance computing) and other research computingsystems in a manner consistent with established priorities and prevailing best practices.
  • Work directly with researchers and educators on how to use these systems effectively in their research and teaching.

This is a remarkable opportunity to be a part of a serviceorganization that directly impacts the work of researchersand educators at the University of Oklahoma (OU).

The job function of this position is to serve as aSystem Administrator within the OU Supercomputing Centerfor Education and Research (OSCER) operating and maintainingOUs research computing systems including but not limited tothe following:

The job function also includes working with a diverse range of faculty staff postdoctoral researchers and graduate and undergraduate students to make the best possible use of OUs research computing systems.

As a member of the supercomputing operations team thisprofessional will work with researchers educators andother research computing teammembers to identify andaddress technical obstacles to the work of the OUresearch community and their collaborators at otherinstitutions.

The primary duties of this position will be to participate in ongoing efforts to document design develop maintain enhance and decommission supercomputing (high-performance computing) and other research computing systems in a manner consistent with established priorities and prevailing best practices and to work directly with researchers and educators on how to use these systems effectively in their research and teaching.

The ideal candidate for this position is curious creative tenacious and self-directed and demonstrates a strong work ethic; is productive working independently as well as collaboratively; is analytical and can identify define interpret and resolve both technical and human issues.

Responsible for systems administration tasks needed to maintain the Universitys supercomputing cluster as well as working with a diverse range of faculty staff and students to make the best possible use of OUs research computing resources.


The position will be located in Norman with a flexible and/or remote option possible for experienced candidates.
