Position at Putnam Hospital Center
Purpose: In conjunction with lab leadership manages the overall laboratory phlebotomy clerical and technical staff to assure that test results are available in a timely and accurate manner. Works with the AVP of Laboratories in implementing policies and procedures in compliance with NYSDOH CAP and other relevant regulatory agencies. Population served based on scope of services in the department.
Span of Control: Assigned technical and non technical laboratory staff.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Oversee day-to-day operations within span of control resolving problems as necessary and ensuring that operations are efficient compliant safe and of the highest possible quality.
2. Develops and implements a strategic plan to create and maintain a culture of customer service. Exhibits problem-solving skills in both routine and emergency situations. Consistently demonstrates patient experience skills by placing patient perception concerns first.
3. Responsible for personnel management to include; interviewing and selection of staff onboarding and training counseling and disciplinary actions up to and including termination.
4. Completes annual assessments in timely fashion and provides professional coaching and career path guidance.
5. Monitors Quality Assurance and Quality Control for the Laboratory.
6. Responsible for the timely and correct submission of New York State and College of American Pathologists proficiency answers.
7. Evaluates new methods and equipment for the Laboratory and makes recommendations to the Medical Director and the Associate Director for Laboratory Services for adoption of equipment and methods.
8. Establish annual goals and measures of performance for functions within the span of control including key financial metrics.
9. Detects when test performance is not within acceptable levels and documents all corrective action.
10. Oversees coordination of schedules distribution of work and usage of laboratory resources.
11. Develops and implements improvements to lab workflow.
12. Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance and takes authorized corrective action.
13. Provides guidance and leadership to laboratory supervisors who oversee the technical staff members.
14. Oversee all testing disciplines within the laboratory including phlebotomy services.
15. Performs other duties as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology
Ten (10) years experience Laboratory Management
Minimum Knowledge Skills and Abilities Requirements:
Knowledge of and ability to perform clinical lab diagnostics and high complexity testing.
License Registration or Certification Requirements:
Current New York State Medical Technologist License or
Current Connecticut State Medical Technologist License (depending on location)
