Job Description
Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opening for a Senior Technical Category Buyer in West Chester Ohio. The ideal candidate will be a professional with engineering or project management experience looking to build off their past knowledge and expand their skills. The Senior Technical Category Buyer utilizes their knowledge to assist in assembling sound contracts for a wide variety of multi-million-dollar projects and bringing them to successful completion. They will also serve as a liaison between personnel in Project Engineering Environmental Plant Legal and suppliers to expedite the procurement process and solve any problems that arise.
Summary of Responsibilities:
Negotiate supplier agreements for equipment supply engineering services construction services and material supply.
Review the scope of documents to ensure the stated requirements are clear performance requirements are identified and are compliant with commercial and contractual requirements.
Work with Project Engineers Environmental Risk Management and/or Legal as necessary to resolve contractual issues between the vendors and Cleveland-Cliffs. Must ensure all contracts adhere to Cleveland-Cliffs Steels standard terms and conditions and all requirements are met.
Work with technical personnel to clarify or resolve any issues or change orders.
Evaluate project risk and how best to mitigate using mechanisms such as insurance performance guarantees liquidated damages and milestone payments.
Compare contract documents for issuance against master agreements.
Participate in meetings to clarify scope and contract terms.
Prepare and issue Requests for Quotes and Purchase Orders.
Assist as needed with contracts for other commodities.
Evaluate union personnel craft rates to ensure a fair price.
Interpret the National Maintenance Agreement.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in engineering construction management or other technical field.
At least five years of experience in project management engineering construction or maintenance activities in a heavy industrial environment.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Outlook Word Excel and Adobe Acrobat
Preferred Qualifications:
Steel mill experience preferred.
Strong analytical and negotiation skills
Experience dealing with trade unions and their local bargaining agreements.
Ability to interpret commercial terms and the fundamentals of construction contracts
Ability to read a blueprint
