    At the present time a vacancy exists for a full-time 200-day Philadelphia Virtual Academy Student Advisor at the Chester County Intermediate Unit.

    SUMMARY OF POSITION:
    To be the main point of contact for students in the Brandywine Virtual Academy. This position communicates with students families & school district partners to help them understand the program and maneuver through the BVA systems. This position is also responsible for understanding the supports needed for students to be successful in their online learning.

    ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Student Support
      1. Monitor and communicate student progress to stakeholders
      2. Resolve student questions by connecting the student with supporting resources
      3. Teach students self-advocacy skills
      4. Help students learn how to communicate curriculum questions to their teachers
      5. Ensure students and stakeholders understand student progress
      6. Help with low level technical issues and escalate when necessary
      7. Promote BVA/PVA resources events and activities
      8. Refer students to academic and attendance interventions
      9. Assist students and families through the orientation process
      10. Maintain ongoing regular contact with students families and districts
      11. Maintain a Virtual Office presence as needed
      12. Support homeroom/advisory responsibilities per district or BVA request
      13. Maintain a safe and supportive environment for students to thrive and engage onsite at BVA/PVA locations
      14. Achieve proficiency in Learning Management Systems Student Information Systems and other district/BVA supported technologies
      15. Perform other tasks as requested by the Student Support Liaison
    1. Family & District Support
      1. Communicate with families and district personnel to answer their questions regarding the program to include virtual meetings in-person orientations and traditional forms of communication (phone/email/messaging apps)
      2. Explain student data and how to check students grades and progress
      3. Highlight student achievement & escalate concerns when appropriate
      4. Support student-centered activities to include newsletters and clubs
      5. Communicate important dates for district testing (PSSAs SATs etc.)
      6. Participate in district partner meetings
      7. Attend student-teacher conferences as requested
      8. Assist districts with course selection
      9. Work with registrars and districts to quality check student enrollments
      10. Support families and districts with academic and attendance interventions

    ESSENTIAL JOB SKILLS:

    3. Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Education and Experience
      1. Bachelors Degree in education or related field
      2. Experience as an instructional assistant or teacher preferred
      3. Experience troubleshooting computer- and technology-related issues preferred
    2. Skills and Abilities
      1. Language/Comprehension Skills
        1. Ability to read analyze and interpret technical procedures and software manuals
        2. Ability to write effective reports correspondence and procedure manuals
        3. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors staff students and parents
      2. Basic Math & Computational Skills
        1. Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts in the performance of routine assignments
      3. Technical Skills
        1. Strong technical aptitude and problem-solving skills
        2. Ability to work as part of a technical and educational team coordinating work with others and escalating requests as necessary
        3. Ability to troubleshoot Tier 1 technical issues
        4. Knowledge of PC and Mac operating systems
      4. Reasoning Ability
        1. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
        2. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form
        3. Ability to apply sound judgment to resolve conflicts and solve problems.

        1. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students staff and parents

    C. Clearances Required: Act 34 151 and FBI Clearances

    Salary: (2025-2026)
    Project; Band 11200-dayCalendar
    $23.52-$29.40/hr based on experience

    Schedule:

    • 200 days per year (summer off)
    • 7.5 hours per day/ 5days per week

    Location:

    The positions primary location will be Work from Home. The successful candidate will also be required to attend the Ferguson Academic Support Center:2000 N 7th St. Philadelphia PAand travel to the CCIU Education Service Center -455 Boot Rd. Downingtown PAand other sites as needed.
