Role Overview
An international group with a growing presence in Central Europe is seeking an Independent Accountant to join its Warsaw-based finance team. This position is ideal for a proactive professional who enjoys autonomy and is ready to take ownership of statutory and financial compliance for Polish entities with the opportunity to expand responsibilities across the region.
Main responsibilities (but not restricted to):
- Prepare and review statutory financial statements and ensure compliance with local accounting standards and regulations.
- Oversee the accurate and timely filing of annual accounts corporate income tax returns and other required local filings.
- Act as the main point of contact for statutory and tax audits providing necessary documentation and addressing audit queries.
- Coordinate and support inter-company transactions ensuring proper documentation and alignment with internal policies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including legal tax and treasury) to support business initiatives and ensure compliance.
- Monitor compliance calendars and manage regulatory deadlines for Polish entities with a view to gradually supporting additional Central European countries.
- Provide technical guidance and support to international accounting teams particularly those based in shared service centers abroad.
- Participate in process improvement and automation projects to streamline compliance and reporting activities.
- Prepare and submit required reports to national authorities including the National Bank of Poland (NBP) and the Central Statistical Office (GUS).
- Contribute to ad hoc finance projects as required.
Candidate Profile:
- University degree in accounting finance or a related field; professional certification is an asset.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in statutory accounting audit or financial compliance within an international environment.
- Strong knowledge of Polish accounting standards and tax regulations; exposure to other Central European jurisdictions is a plus.
- Fluent in Polish and English.
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with ERP systems and process automation is advantageous.
- Proactive detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across functions and cultures.
