Position Summary

SNUG works with community residents businesses and community-based organizations to implement a strategic public health strategy to reduce and prevent shootings and killings.

The Program Manager hires trains supervises directs all staff activities and directly supervises the Outreach Worker Supervisor. The Outreach Worker Supervisor directly supervises the outreach workers and violence interrupters. Skilled outreach workers and the violence interrupters are a key ingredient to the success of this initiative. The Program Manager acts as liaison with law enforcement the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) Albany Medical Center and with all other partners internal and external. It is the Program Managers responsibility to ensure the efficient operation of the program in accord with federal state and local law and health and safety guidelines and established DCJS and agency policy procedure and protocol.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Program Manager facilitates the implementation of the SNUG model and the management of the SNUG team.
  • Operationalizes the core components of the SNUG approach: outreach community mobilization public education and relationship with local law enforcement representatives as well as the adoption of best practices.
  • Develop community partners.
  • Work to develop resources for participants and staff.
  • Develop a strategic plan for program staff.
  • Plan and execute community norm change events.
  • Work with Outreach Supervisor four hours per week in the target area.
  • Program liaison with local police department.
  • Manage the program data so that the program is meeting funding standards.
  • Supervision of Outreach Worker Supervisor
  • Conduct team meetings.
  • Help plan and participate in shooting responses.

Community Mobilization

  • Recruit and manage a volunteer base of individuals to participate in shooting responses; canvass the neighborhood; participate in the planning and execution of community activities; help identify auxiliary resources and provide advocacy on behalf of the highest risk individuals.
  • Plan and implement responses to shootings with community residents and other local partners.
  • Manages public education campaign including canvassing in the target area.
  • Plans and oversees the conduct of a range of regular community and participant activities.

Resource Development

  • Develops relationships with local service providers and program partners including law enforcement faith leaders Albany Medical Center and community stakeholders in order to identify and access resources for the highest risk participants.

Team Management

  • Responsible for the adoption and continued implementation of best practices as taught in the required DCJS SNUG Trinity and other trainings which include:
  1. Organizing hiring panels for open positions
  2. Regular weekly (i.e. same day same time) staff meetings
  3. Regularly weekly staff supervision oversight of required trainings participant enrollment/caseload management participant contact by outreach workers per the Cure Violence model and requirements inspection of thereof
  4. Regular timely completion by self and staff of documentation and reports
  5. Ensures the health and wellness of team members thru oversight of benefit time wellness activities and maintaining strong personal connections with each team member

Program Monitoring

  • Participates in evaluation activities of the community-based violence prevention program and organizes and participates in a review of program progress.
  • Participates in regular meetings with the Trinity Director of Quality Assurance SNUG and DCJS
  1. Review and assess progress of programmatic goals as stated in the Scope of Work
  2. Assess relevance and adequacy of the program performance violence
  3. Adjusts plans as needed
  4. Determine other priority needs and goals.

Qualifications/Preferred Skills:

  • BS in a Human Services field (i.e. Sociology Social Work etc.) or equivalent experience; or two or more years experience working in management of similar work.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Proven management experience (e.g. monitoring budgets programmatic progress to goals etc.)
  • Proven community organizing abilities.
  • Proven ability to document programmatic activities and assist others. I
  • Experience and/or training and staff supervision
  • Valid drivers license good driving record and insurance
  • Experience working with at-risk youth and gang members.
  • Knowledge of affected communities
  • No pending criminal cases or prior convictions for sexual assault child abuse or domestic violence.

Salary: $60000 - $65000

Full-time - 35 hours per week
