Job Description

SCOPE OF WORK: To conduct tutoring sessions and math workshops and coordinate the operations and services provided in the Math Lab in the Academic Center for Excellence (ACE). This position reports to the Vice President of Student Success (VPSS) at NHTI Concords Community College.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Tutors students individually or in small groups in the Math Lab;
  • Conducts workshops for math skill building;
  • Directs and supervises tutors including peer and professional tutors;
  • Coordinates and supervises the daily operations of the Math Lab under the guidance of the VPSS;
  • Maintains the Math Lab sign in kiosk and database;
  • Collaborates with Math faculty;
  • Assists other Academic Center for Excellence staff with upholding high standards of student success;
  • Ensures compliance with the overall mission of the Academic Center for Excellence;
  • Complies with all college system state and federal rules and regulations;
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelors degree from a recognized college or university with major study in mathematics physics engineering education or a related field.

Experience: Two years experience as a teacher academic advisor academic program coordinator/manager student services/support advisor or related academic or student services experience.

License/Certification: Possession of a valid Drivers License or access to statewide transportation.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced knowledge of foundational and most upper-level Math courses (Finite Mathematics Statistics Calculus Trigonometry).

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of teaching methods and materials problems and subject matter as relates to course of instruction. Knowledge of program and academic standards. Ability to maintain comprehensive records of the progress and development of the individual student.

General knowledge of student success models within higher education. Ability to detect and define problem areas and causes and to create and develop effective solutions including the exercise of sound judgment in evaluating situations planning action making decisions and setting priorities. Ability to work independently to develop new or alternative approaches to meet changing and variable conditions. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and college personnel. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
