This role is part of the New Shepard program. New Shepard is a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Krmn line the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.

As an Avionics Test Technician you will primarily fabricate repair and maintain our teams Avionics Test Equipment and there are additional opportunities to support functional and environmental testing of flight avionics as a Test Operator. This is a dynamic and flexible hands-on position requiring attention to detail adaptability and passion for quality and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Using drawings verbal communications and heavy engineering collaboration as appropriate fabricate/integrate rework repair inspect and maintain custom rackmount test systems and all associated hardware and harnessing
  • Responsibly maintain accurate configuration of test equipment throughout rework repair and maintenance activities
  • Review new equipment drawings for manufacturability and maintainability
  • Support equipment troubleshooting activities
  • Support build preparations by consulting project managers on schedule estimates identifying tool/material shortages and preparing job kits
  • Follow procedures to directly handle and operate test equipment and complete testing of flight hardware
  • Identify improvements to test equipment operations and procedures and work with team-members to implement them
  • Directly support lab organization cleaning and routine maintenance activities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 6 years of industry experience building and integrating electrical assemblies and harnesses
  • Proficient in building and testing electrical harnesses including assembly crimping and soldering in accordance with IPC standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620 IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 or equivalent
  • Proficient in interpreting electrical schematics wiring diagrams assembly drawings and written assembly procedures
  • Experience using common electronic lab equipment such as power supplies and multi-meters
  • Proficient in reliably implementing ESD process controls and best practices
  • Ability to regularly and correctly use typical hand tools such as torque wrenches screw drivers and crimpers to support electrical hardware assembly and rework
  • Strong written literacy and basic computer skills
  • Organized and tidy work ethic high attention to detail commitment to safety accuracy and quality
  • Strong written and verbal job relevant technical communication
  • Critical thinking skills to guide swift problem resolution and progress in spite of setbacks
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing scope or priorities
  • Ability to independently lead assignments efficiently to completion
  • Ability to work minimum 40 hr work week with occasional overtime
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder) or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completed coursework in electrical or electronic technology
  • 4 years experience in Aerospace Avionics or related mission/safety critical fields
  • Certification in and/or Knowledge of IPC standards for assembly inspection rework modification and repair of Electronic Assemblies (IPC-7711B/7721B or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge in the safe and reliable construction and operation of electrical equipment
  • Experience using and troubleshooting complex test equipment
  • Experience integrating or troubleshooting server racks
  • Network system hardware familiarity
  • Experience with power systems and high voltage systems
  • Experience and capability to interface with software systems such as LabVIEW and Python


Compensation Range for:

WA applicants is $29.04-$40.65
