Position Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join University Health Services (UHS) medical staff as a behavioral health consultant (BHC).

We are expanding our Primary Care Behavioral Health program to align with evidence-based best practice to support the mental health needs of UO students seeking care through our primary care acute care sports medicine or specialty care (gynecology endocrinology) clinics. BHCs are fully integrated within this structure.

The primary purpose of this position will be to collaborate with UHS medical teams to offer mental health support and develop patient centered integrated treatment plans that support the whole health of students. BHCs offer mental health assessments brief supportive therapy single session interventions crisis support and case management.

BHCs also partner closely with therapists in the Counseling Services department as well as psychiatry colleagues to create cohesive treatment plans and wrap-around support.

UHS has physical therapy dental pharmacy diagnostic services and public health teams who serve as additional resources and collaborators.

The integration within the medical team and the availability of so many other mental and physical health professionals provide a high level of support and collegiality for the BHCs within UHS.

BHCs work closely alongside UO campus partners and community providers to ensure that students are accessing support and leveraging resources to support their needs.

This 9-month position will report to the Medical Director and serve as a member of the UHS Medical Staff.

Minimum Requirements

Masters degree in psychology social work or a behavioral science field AND experience as a Qualified Mental Health Professional certified by a state-approved certifying entity; OR
A Licensed Clinical Social Worker Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

In addition to one of the above qualifiers candidates must have the following:
Experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Brief Solution Focused Therapy Single Session Therapy or similar approaches geared toward short term therapeutic approaches
Two years work experience with mental health patients in crisis
Three years relevant work or experience in field of expertise

Professional Competencies

Experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds in support of an inclusive and welcoming environment

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with young adults and/or college students
Experience working with international students
Experience working with drug and alcohol dependency and addiction issues
Experience working with patients with eating disorders
Experience working with Adult Attention Deficit Disorder assessment and treatment
Experience working in a collaborative health care setting with professionals of varying backgrounds
Experience in quality improvement and peer review for mental health cases
Certified to supervise masters-level therapists toward LPC/LMFT licensures
Experience providing crisis intervention including to individuals at risk for suicide and experiencing psychotic or manic symptoms
Experience in medical and/or college mental health settings
