The Division of Neurocritical Care (NCC) in collaboration with the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides comprehensive compassionate and technologically advanced patient- and family-centered care including the most advanced diagnostics and treatments education of future leaders in the field quality improvement initiatives and clinical research to develop new therapies.
Under the direction of the Associate Medical Director and the Nursing Director of Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit and NCC division leadership the Neuro ICU APP (can be Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) is accountable for the delivery of consistent high quality patient care.
The Neuro ICU APP develops implements and evaluates a program of specialized health care for a select patient population. Promotes a collaborative relationship and effort between the medical staff and professional nurses toward continuity of patient care and efficient use of resources. Serves as a role model for professional nursing practice.
Education/Degree for an APP
Masters or Doctor of Nursing from an accredited nursing program or Masters Degree for Physician Assistant
Licensure Certifications or Registration for an APP
Current Massachusetts licensure as a registered nurse and current certification as a Nurse Practitioner granted by a Board recognized certifying organization or certification as a Physician Assistant
Prescriptive authority for controlled substances in MA (MCSR)
DEA registration for controlled substances
Job Summary
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed provider. The NP is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients medical and/or surgical including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation.

Essential Functions
-Provides direct care counseling and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory inpatient operative and/or procedural setting
-Performs complete histories and physical examinations
-Orders interprets and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests
-Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic laboratory and physical examination findings
-Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes procedure notes operative notes and discharge summaries
-Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population
-Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures

Masters Degree Nursing required
