Technical Position Description
Position Title: Technical Audio-Visual Subject Matter Expert (SME)
Team: Technology Meeting Space Squad
Position Summary: The Technical Audio-Visual Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of AV technology across conferencing suites and meeting rooms. The role involves maintaining AV systems providing on-site technical support and training concierge team members to optimize their use of event space technologies. Located in Melbourne this position plays a key role in enhancing functionality and user experience within specialized event spaces.
Key Responsibilities:
AV Technology Management & Maintenance
- Oversee operational readiness for AV/Meeting Room Technology
- Conduct daily checks before any VIP or major events to confirm rooms are functional at a technical level including cameras microphones and content-sharing tools.
- Prioritise VIP events first and ensure rooms are ready before meetings and assist clients in operating technology comfortably and safely.
- Perform low-level fault rectification and escalate issues to the AV support team when necessary
- Conduct proactive maintenance checks on hardware and reset rooms post-events.
Concierge Support
- Train and assist Concierge team members to resolve AV issues and set up meeting rooms.
- Confirm booked rooms are technically suitable for client needs.
- Liaise with bookers prior to events to ensure all AV setups are agreed & confirmed prior to events
- Coordinate with other staff to handle clashing bookings VIP requirements and additional technical resource needs.
Daily Operations Coordination
- Review bookings for the day noting potential clashes VIP events will be the priority to ensure suitable resource/hardware requirements.
- Address unresolved technology issues/tasks from the previous day.
- Ensure coordination between staff for guest comfort and technology support during clashing bookings.
Hypercare Duties (All Rooms)
- Conduct MS Teams test calls for across conferencing suites and meeting rooms.
- Verify the functionality of touch panels one button to push (OBTP) systems cameras microphones and content-sharing tools.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues or escalate problems to the Help Desk support team.
- Identify and mitigate technology hazards/risks (e.g. tripping hazards open floor boxes) and report them appropriately.
- Notify Concierge teams of any room issues & keep them updated to progress of logged issues
- Join Teams calls using SIP/VTC ID and check handheld/lapel microphones are charged and plugged in.
- Link rooms in advance if needed and test VC unit functionality (camera microphone content sharing) based on the days sessions.
Ad-Hoc Duties
- Perform basic fault rectification; escalate unresolved issues and raise tickets to AV support.
- Upskill Concierge team members to assist end users during clashing bookings.
- Track and ensure the return of loaned items (e.g. power cables HDMI cables and clickers).
- Manage stock levels of technology accessories and report maintenance issues promptly.
- Conduct monthly checks of XLR inputs / outputs power supplies and CAT cables within lecterns and AV tables; isolate damaged items and raise replacement requests.
- Track any logged issue with AV support team for regular updates
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proven expertise in Audio Visual technology and troubleshooting.
- Strong coordination and communication skills for working with Concierge and end-users.
- Industry based training/qualification i.e. AVIXA MS Teams Extron AV Associate
