Primary Function of the Position

Hmong American Partnership is committed to developing the skills and career preparedness of our youth and community. Interns will acquire foundational exposure to one or multiple impact areas based on HAPs needs under a project managers direction. The nature of an interns primary functions will vary depending on the assigned impact area. HAP will work closely with each intern to align their career interests with HAPs needs. As an intern our ideal candidate is a driven high performer who takes pride and passion in helping our nonprofit grow share HAPs efforts in conveying our story and supporting our mission as you make a difference and impact in your community.

Position Responsibilities

Position responsibilities will vary depending on the impact area an intern is assigned to or transitions from one area to another. Below are some of the following positions duties and responsibilities an intern may encounter in this impact area.

Systems Integration

  • Shadow Systems Integration team members to observe and learn daily operations and best practices.
  • Support data entry research filing and recordkeeping to ensure data integrity and security.
  • Assist with the collection tracking and reporting of data for internal projects and program performance.
  • Handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism honesty and integrity.
  • Develop teamwork and collaboration skills by supporting cross-functional initiatives and internal coordination.
  • Occasionally participate in community outreach efforts to help promote HAPs programs and services.
  • Create and maintain digital forms to support efficient data collection and organizational processes.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of various digital platforms and tools used by the Systems Integration team.
  • Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned by the Systems Integration team.

Qualifications

Skills Knowledge and Abilities

  • Experience working with the ALANA community preferred.
  • Knowledge of the Hmong and Southeast Asian and/or immigrant and refugee cultures and traditions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office particularly Word and Excel; working knowledge of Microsoft 365 preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to build relationships work with diverse communities and navigate sensitive conversations with empathy and respect.
  • Flexible and adaptable with a demonstrated ability to work in dynamic or changing environments.
  • Ability to multi-task in fast-paced and high-pressure situations.
  • Self-motivated and proactive with strong initiative sound judgment and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail time management and the ability to meet deadlines.

Education and Experience

  • Current high school student or recent high school graduate.
  • Enrolled in or pursuing an associates or bachelors degree in Information Technology Computer Science Data Analytics Business Administration Public Administration Sociology Human Services Nonprofit Management or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent work or volunteer experience in relevant areas may be considered in place of formal education.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to sit or remain in a stationary position for extended periods in an indoor office setting.
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to operate a computer phone and other office equipment.
  • Must be able to move throughout the office to access files equipment and other resources.
  • Tolerance for moderate noise levels in a shared workspace (e.g. phones printers light foot traffic).
  • Occasional lifting or moving boxes and materials up to 20 pounds.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation for occasional travel for meetings at other HAP office locations events and offsite meetings.
