Job Summary
Grade 125
Summary: Responsible and accountable for establishing maintaining and coordinating the appropriate inventory of equipment utilized by surgical services. The equipment technician works in collaboration with the Nurse in Charge / Throughput manager / Operations Manager/Nursing Director/ Biomed in managing the day-to-day activities as determined by the operating room schedule. The equipment technician functions as a member of the Perioperative Team who has specific knowledge skills and training to work in an Operating Room Environment while assisting with patient care and directly reports to the Operations Manager.

Essential Functions:
Collaborates with the surgical team under the direct supervision of the Operations Manager (during patient care) to assure all equipment is available/ready for surgical procedures.
Develops and maintains an inventory of equipment with par levels and location for staff/team reference.
Checks OR schedule to assure availability of equipment. Collaborate with Nurse in Charge/Throughput Manager and Operations Manager as appropriate in resolving conflicts.
Day/evening before surgery set up rooms for following day with necessary equipment for the first cases of the next day.
Able to access Epic for preference card review for equipment and positioning needs.
Uses effective oral and written communication to foster collaboration teamwork and mutual respect.
Assists with the day-to-day non-clinical operational issues for perioperative Services. This includes communication with various ancillary services such as Engineering Biomed and Telecommunications. Communication must be at all times professional and effective to enhance a positive working environment.
Communicates equipment out for repair to team/assures replacement as necessary.
Collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams on new equipment in OR.
Collaborates with Nurse in Charge Throughput Manager Operations Manager and biomed on introducing new equipment in the OR. This includes but is not limited to communication to staff and assisting with/coordination of in-services as appropriate.
Works with industry representatives as necessary assuring hospital policy is followed during visits.
Cares for (set up and breakdown) equipment as appropriate.
Assists with staff education as appropriate.
Assists with patient positioning and turning over rooms as appropriate.
Adheres to hospital mandatory training and testing requirement.
Participates in activities conducive to safety of patients and team members.
Monitors and supports use of aseptic technique according to hospital policy.
Uses interpersonal skill in relationships with other health team members.
Collaborates with Operations Manager to keep unit regulatory ready demonstrating knowledge of regulatory guidelines and ability to participate in unit quality standards.
Maintains tracking logs for broken equipment.
Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Licenses and Credentials
Experience: Three years of operating room experience required or equivalent experience 3-5 years required. Computer experience preferred
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Staff adheres to all I C.A.R.E. Standards.
- Able to read understand and write English.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs. Independently.
- Must be able to push stretcher independently with patient weighing up to 250lbs.
- Must be aware of proper body mechanics when assisting in patient transfer; equipment moves and lifting of heavy objects.
- Must possess interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with other healthcare members.
- Must constantly be alert and attentive to progress of O.R. schedule to meet tight deadlines of following cases.
- Must be able to stand for long periods of time (up to 6 hours).
