This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit where our focus is the design development manufacturing and testing of engines and propulsion systems. Built for multiple uses our family of engines is powering the next generation of rockets for commercial civil national security and human spaceflight.

As a Propulsion Engineer on the BE-4 Thrust Chamber Assembly Team you will be integral to the design development and production support of combustion devices such as chambers and nozzles for our BE4 rocket engine. This role calls for technical expertise innovation and adaptability in dynamic settings. You will oversee the product life-cycle from initial requirements through to flight qualification ensuring every step meets our safety and reliability standards. Youll collaborate extensively to refine components for optimal production speed and cost-efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Innovate and refine the manufacturing and design of Thrust Chamber Assemblies supporting BE-4 engine sub-assembly production through critical manufacturing processes including machining welding spin forming and additive manufacturing and more.
  • Conduct comprehensive design analysis and trade studies to meet strategic objectives focusing on creating manufacturable and cost-efficient parts.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams through root cause analysis and corrective actions to enhance hardware performance.
  • Collaborate with test and launch teams to analyze data providing insights and solutions to support efficient testing rhythms and reduction of flight data; ensure a test to build iteration cycle is maintained.
  • Challenge manufacturing processes for peak efficiency and execute design-for-manufacturability strategies for continual process optimization.
  • Prepare technical documentation capturing the design and manufacturing processes of combustion devices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline (aerospace mechanical chemical or physics preferred).
  • 2 years of experience in propulsion engineering including mechanical design and practical hands on manufacturing exposure.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Understanding of data analysis and processing techniques including winplot matlab etc.
  • Strong foundation and ability to perform first order analysis in fluid mechanics heat transfer and structural mechanics.
  • Ability to understand upstream and downstream requirements of a complex rocket cycle to make informed risk decision.
  • Ability to earn trust maintain positive and professional relationships and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder) or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired (But Not Required):

  • Advanced degree in mechanical aerospace or materials engineering.
  • Expertise in Creo Windchill PLM ANSYS Mechanical and MATLAB.
  • Familiarity with aerospace manufacturing techniques such as vacuum welding TIG welding and non-destructive testing.
  • Experience in iterative development and design to boost reusability and cut costs.
  • Proficiency in CFD data analysis and metallurgical evaluation.
  • Firm grasp of combustion analysis and hardware fabrication methodologies.
  • Experience reducing manufacturing cost and touch labor.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for long periods and engage in hands-on work with engine hardware.
  • Flexibility to work outside standard hours including extended hours and weekends if needed.
  • Routine exposure to typical workshop conditions including dust and moderate noise necessitating safety precautions.
