COMPENSATION: $125.00 per day for the first ten (10) days and $150.00 per day for each day thereafter.

Primary Purpose:

The English Learner Literacy Specialist (K-8) will be responsible for bringing evidence-based practices into classrooms by working with and supporting teachers and administration with the goal of increasing student engagement improving student achievement and building teacher capacity in the areas of literacy and language acquisition. The English Learner Literacy Specialist (K-8) will foster the implementation of SD 308 CCSS aligned ELA curriculum and resources WIDA Standards Spanish Language Arts Standards and balanced bilingual instruction. He or she will be responsible for modeling/co-teaching lessons providing teacher feedback about their instruction on a regular basis and providing specific instructional techniques strategies and approaches to enhance EL and bilingual instruction. The English Learner Literacy Specialist (K-8) will work collaboratively with the Director of Professional Development and the EL Department to provide ongoing professional development to teachers and administration supporting literacy and EL and bilingual instruction. He or she will disaggregate and analyze a variety of data to plan collaboratively with teachers to meet the unique academics needs of each student.

Performance Responsibilities:

Demonstrate effective leadership skills.
Develop rapport with adult learners.
Utilize in-depth knowledge of District 308 ELA curriculum/resources to support implementation of curriculum.
Support teachers in the development of formative assessments to guide instruction.
Provide support in analyzing and interpreting test scores to plan for instruction.
Support PLCs.
Responsible to assist teachers in using the common core standards for ELA in daily instruction.
Knowledge of best practice EL and bilingual instruction.
Knowledge of WIDA standards.
Knowledge of balanced bilingual instruction and language acquisition theory.
Knowledge and effective use of technology including instructional technology software and tools.
Knowledge in effective teaching strategies peer coaching mentoring.
Identify EL department professional development needs based on staff input and ISBE requirements.
Responsible for the identification scheduling and evaluation of professional development providers and workshops.
Recommend professional development opportunities as identified through observations conversations and building/district needs.
Develop and maintain a confidential collegial relationship with teachers.
Participate in curriculum staff meetings and other programs within the assigned schools and on a District level.
Attend training workshops/conferences as needed to remain current on EL education and instructional best practice.
Strong leadership oral writing and interpersonal skills.

Qualifications:

Valid Illinois teacher license
Endorsement in Bilingual Spanish or ESL
Leadership experience in the area of English Learner (EL) instruction
Minimum five years of successful teaching experience
Masters Degree in a literacy or language acquisition related area preferred

District 308 grants prior experience credit on our salary schedule for up to 10 years of prior contracted teaching experience.
